Track for kids?
Noah has never had a real interest in sports.. I mean he has tried them here and there but he's never found one he really LOVES. And it's weird because he's naturally athletic. Well.. he finally found something he has a passion for.. RUNNING.
He begs Rob to take him running all the time. Rob takes him to the track because it's the only way he can keep track of both boys. Robbie poops out after a mile or so and Rob and Noah keep going.. but Noah is always at least a half mile ahead of Rob and only stops when Rob makes him. He can't take them to the park because he'd have Robbie wandering off the trail after a while and Noah would be too far for him to catch.
Anyway.. we'd like to encourage his love of running but we've never heard of any kind of track club or team for kids before they hit 7th or 8th grade. Does anyone know if there is something out there that I'm missing?

By me (south eastern Nassau) PAL & CYO both have track. PAL starts at 5 years old, not sure about CYO.

Track for kids?
When I was young I went to Catholic school and ran track 1st through 8th grade. They would sometimes let kids from schools who didn;t have teams run for our school. You may want to check in any local catholic schools have a team and if they accept kids from other schools.

Not sure where you live, but St. Joseph's in Ronkonkoma offers an intramural track program.

DS was on the St Joe's track team last year, when he was in 3rd grade. He decided he didn't really like it, so he dropped out after the season, but it's a nice program. There's a weekly practice, and a couple of meets during the season. Everyone gets a ribbon or trophy. There are several races for each child to participate in at the meets, so it's not like you drive to the event, they run for 20 seconds, then you go home. I think most of the kids had at least 3 races.

Thanks all! The St. Joe's looks like it could work for us.. depending on how far it is from home (my husband does NOT like to go too far.. )
