Trading in your lease early...

Ok- So my lease for my Nissian Altima is up in August- and I'm hoping to have the option to get out early- since I do plan to lease or buy another Nissian...

Someone at work had the same car as me, and went into the dealership where she got her car 7 months before her lease was up, and they allowed her to break her lease and move into a bigger car right then and there....

Is this common- or do you generally have to wait for that letter in the mail offering you that option???

Re: Trading in your lease early...

you can trade it early, 7 months is pretty early. Most of the time, they will roll your remaining lease payments into your new lease. They may also see what the book value is, see what your mileage is and try to buy the car from you so you don't have any liability.

Either way, it's kind of early. I wouldn't trade it in if they are rolling the rest of your lease payments into your new lease.

No me either-

However my co-worker said that for her they ate the rest of lease to get her into the new lease..

It sounds to good to be true.... but who knows...

Not many dealers would eat 7 months of a lease unless the car had so little miles that they could sell it and make money on it. I've leased many cars and the most I've ever been offered is 3 months. It's worth a try though. Go to the dealer your co-worker went to.

I intend to- especially since its the same place I got my car from..

Now- do I go in a first just looking to get a car and hit them with- well... Im wondering if I could trade in my lease early...

Or

Do I go in and put all my cards out on the table???

Re: Trading in your lease early...

First go to Edmonds.com Get the invoice price of the cars you may be interested in. Then go to the dealer and check the cars out. Take them for a test drive. See if you like one over the other. Check out the sticker price of the car and compare it to the invoice price. All the while the sales person will ask you, what are you driving now, how much do you pay..etc.. Tell them that you are not discussing that until you are sure you are interested in buying the car. It's honest.

Once you decide on the car, tell them that you want to pay x amount. Once that has been agreed upon, then tell them you have a lease to get out of. That should be the last thing you tell them. Once you have agreed on the deal, then hit them with that info.

Re: Trading in your lease early...

I was able to trade in my lease 2 years early

I had alot of issues with the car- and of course I was willing to upgrade - that always helps

Re: Trading in your lease early...

I would go to the dealer or call and wee what they say if you have a good relationship with them.
I turned in my HOnda 3 mos early, but my mom wanted to turn in her Subaru for another one and they wouldn't do ANYTHING, they said surrendering a lease more than 4 months in advance is considered agreed reposession.....I think they are feeding her a line though.

Re: Trading in your lease early...

if you are willing to trade up, then I would think they will be eager to work with you. When our lease was coming towards the end they were eager to have us upgrade. They would waived any over mileage too.

ITA. even if they agree to do this, it can cause you to lose points on your credit account b/c you might be "upside down" on the loan, meaning you owe more than the value of the car. It would depend on how they value the loan (future value or life of lease).

Also, in August the will start to have deals on the 2008 models, so you might save some $$ then.

Re: Trading in your lease early...

I did this last year. I traded in my nissan 3 months early for a new one and they ate those payments. I would have been over mileage had I not turned it early and everthing went smoothly. Good LUck!!!
