Traffic Ticket in NJ
On the way home from PA today, I got a traffic ticket. I was in NJ, about 2 minutes from the GW bridge. I was pulled over by a very friendly state trooper (i'm serious, he was friendly - weird for a state trooper). He let me off the speeding ticket (doing 84 in a 55 zone) and gave me a ticket for "careless driving". Since I have a NY license, the two points won't carry over from NJ to NY.
My question is: do you know how much of a fine I will need to pay for this violation? I don't need specific quotes, but just a ballpark figure. The NJDMV is closed today, and I can't find this info out until tomorrow. I'm dying to know over here...
THANKS!!!

Re: Traffic Ticket in NJ
The violation should match up to a code on the back of the ticket with the amount of the fine.

Re: Traffic Ticket in NJ
The ticket is not written the same way it is in NY. There is no list of violation fees on the back of the slip.
Anyone ever get a ticket in NJ?

Yes, but the ones DH has gotten always had the fees listed on the back.

I've never received a ticket in NY. I live in NJ. I'm surprised to hear that the fees aren't on the tickets anymore...

Re: Traffic Ticket in NJ
Please tell me you were not on the Palisades Pkwy, cause Oh Lawd will you be in for a looooooooooooooooooooooog night at that court!
Did he say "careless driving" or "unsafe driving" they might mean the same, in which case just last week in court many people were accepting guilty pleas of "Unsafe Driving" because NJ can no longer reduce traffic charges to something that is not a moving violation. They used to be able to (like NY) take a 65 in a 55 down to parking on pavement or something stupid like that. NJ cannot do it anymore so they have this "unsafe Driving" charge, average people were paying per the Judge was $430-480.
ETS: Careless Driving on the back of my summons is $85 I don't know if its the same rate for NJ State Troopers as it is for PIP Police, BUT 29 MPH over limit would have earned you $220 and possible instant suspension according to the Prosecuter (for that Judge) so I don't know what you did for this guy, but I'd say you were very lucky!
