Transfering your iTunes library from one computer to the other

HELP!!

I just can't imagine having to do it alll over again just to get it on my new MacBook. I haaaate my Dell at this point.

I googled and found out about a free software program- iPod to iTunes....I'm a little wary. You basically plug your ipod into the new computer, download the software and it transfers whatever is on your iPod to the new computer. But I know Apple is very against this since they want to avoid all the music stealing and whatnot.

Has anyone done this? Please help!

Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Transfering your iTunes library from one computer to the other

I'm sorry I can't help much but I think you are allowed to transfer each song 5 times. So you can burn it to a CD, download it to your iPod, download it to your friends iPod and still have 2 uses left.

I had 2 users on my PC and consolidated me and my DH to one user. It got confusing with our separate iTunes accounts. Now we sign in separately using our own name & password but we share a library.

I remember itunes asking me to confirm that I would be using 1 of my 5 uses for each song when I did it.

Re: Transfering your iTunes library from one computer to the other

Just do a backup of your ITunes. That's the only way I was able to do it when I wanted to get all of my songs from my desktop onto my laptop.

how many cds would that take though? it'll be AGES for me to do it that way!Chat Icon Chat Icon Alot of my music came from my own CDs, but over the years I've purchased an awful lot. Plus, to put all those playlists back together...Chat Icon I use those playlists for my lessons!!

Also....I have no idea what happened, but there's at least 20 songs that are no longer on my computer, yet remain on my iPod. Chat Icon

Re: Transfering your iTunes library from one computer to the other

are these computers on the same network?? just create a shared folder and move them over.

or

there is a backup feature on itunes (you can use dvds)

Not sure about the software thing you found.

You will lose everything on your ipod as it has to be formated for mac since you were on a pc......

I don't have a network....I connect to my MacBook with a wireless connection.

Rats...I guess I'll have to do this the looong way.Chat Icon

Thanks everyone!

When I did mine I had about 600 songs and I think it took 4 discs. But it was so quick and easy!! All songs, playlists, everything will get backed up and copied over.

Seriously, even playlists? Thank God for that!! I just wonder if the transfer from Dell to Mac would be a problem....

I have a good 1600-1700 songs....would it be worth backing up even the songs I have on CD already? Or am I just backing up iTunes in general?

Re: Transfering your iTunes library from one computer to the other

you have a wireless connection?
that means you have a router....

If you did the backup method on cd's, it should take about 12 disc based on 1700 songs

a computer has nothing to do with Dell per say...they just make them. you may have some tpype of spyware or trojan or something thats making yoru computer not a fun expereience...

are you refering to disc mode?

basically the ipod can be a big flash driver. this may or may not work depending on how much space you have (or you load up the ipod, and then move it to the mac, then back to pc and so on)

forgot you can do that tooo, if thats what your talking about

well my Dell is just old. And I've become so enamored with Macs...and I use them so much more often than my Dell. All of my work is now on my Mac.

no, it is literally connecting you ipod and hiding it from the computer so it doesn't wipe out all tyour sons and you command the ipod to import songs from your ipod to the computer

basically a flash drive (some call it thumb drive)

You can use as a portable storage device to hold anything, documents, mp3, presentations, etc...
