Transition to the Crib with Questions
We started putting DS in his crib at the 3 month mark, which was last week.
1st night we just winged it, did not swaddle and he was up every hour or so, was a nightmare.
2nd night we used the miracle blanket and he did great, went from 8:30 to 5am, we fed him and then he went back again till 8.
3rd night and on he has been doing the following, 2 or 3 times a night he cries and fuses, we go in to put his paci back in and he falls right back to sleep. He then gets up at 6am for a feeding, but he then goes back to bed again for another 2 or 3 hours.
We always put him in his crib while he is awake and he falls asleep on his own.
We asked the Ped and he said to not run in there, let him cry for a little and see if he falls back asleep on his own and DS does sometimes, but the times he does not fall back after a few min's we go in there.
My question is, does this eventually stop, get, better or the longer we run in there to put his paci back in, we are just hurting ourselves? Also, the 6am feeding, will he eventually drop that and just sleep to 8am?
Also, when you swaddle your DC do you slowly try to stop doing it? Do you go from a full swaddle to letting his arms free or legs free or just let them CIO at that point?
Thank you

Re: Transition to the Crib with Questions
I have to say, it all depends on your baby! And once you think he has a routine, it may change...just do what feels right. It sounds like he is on the right track and sleeping great. You are doing all the right things - experiment with the swaddle, he will let you know what he likes/doesn't like :)

Re: Transition to the Crib with Questions
I agree with the PP. sounds like you are doing everything right. I don't think you are hurting yourself long term with the pacifier. It's a way for him to soothe himself for now and as he gets older, he may not need it. Cross that bridge when you come to it.
I can't speak to the swaddle issue. DD has broken out of every swaddle she's ever been in from day one, so she's only ever been in a sleep sack.

Re: Transition to the Crib with Questions
Our DD is about 2 and a half months now. We transittioned her to her crib 2 nights ago from the newborn rocker. She is not used to sleeping flat on her back because the newborn rocker is inclined. She used to sleep 6 -7 and half hours. She never like to be swaddled. She has been in a sleep sack since week 2.
Night one, she got restless quite a few times and we turned on her giraffe heartbeat noise toy (it only lasts 45 min). We had to go in 3 times to turn it back on because she got restless when she would wake and it wasn't on. She slept from 12:30 - 7:30.
Night two, she slept from 12:30 to 5:50. We left a different white noise maker by home medics on (the rain sound, which she isn;t used to) It looked like she wanted to suck her thumb, so I released her hands from the sleepsack. That didn't help. I gave her the pacifier, which I wasn't sure if I was digging myself into a whole with that and of course, she spit it out. I ended up going back in putting the pacifier back in and in addition to the rain, we turned on the giraffe heartbeat. It was a world of sounds coming through the baby moitor last night. Anyhow, I went in about 4 times from 5:50 - 6:30. Then she finally fell asleep again from 6:30 - 7:45.
Not sure what I am doing right or wrong. I go back to work for the first time since she was born on Jan 3, so I want to get it right by then.
Any suggestions anyone?
