Transitioning Food Question

My dog is currently eating a grain free kibble in the chicken & turkey flavor that he loves. His current bag is almost done and their is a grain free beef & lamb food made by the same company (same exact food -- just different flavor). I was thinking of switching it up for the next bag. Do you think I have to go through the whole transition process (week 1 - 25% new food, 75% old food, etc.) to switch the flavor? Or just I just give it to him outright?

Transitioning Food Question

Since it's a different type of protein I would do the transition routine. I'm not positive you HAVE to though...

Re: Transitioning Food Question

I stopped doing the transition thing after the first time each of my dogs picked out only the new pieces of food to eat.
Any changes after were just fine.
Being it's just a different flavor maybe try half if you're worried?

I would mix them together for a few days just to make sure the dog doesn't have a weird reaction.

We've transitioned different flavors, etc. within the same brand, and didn't do transition plan - he was totally fine. But yes, if you have any concerns, maybe do half and half for a few days to make sure.

Ditto. I switch up the flavors a lot- I feel like they would appreciate a little variety. Chat Icon
