Transitioning from wee wee pad to outside...any advice?
I have just about had it w/ Oreo "going" in the house and would like to start training him to go outside. Any helpful hints, advice, things I should and/or should not do?

Re: Transitioning from wee wee pad to outside...any advice?
I posted this a lil while back....DH and I never used wee wee pad with our dog, we never wanted him to associate going #1 or #2 in the house at all, so we would just pick him up when he was about to squat, or mid-squat, and take him outside and treat him with a biscuit when he did it ourside. THEN we found these things called Poochie Bells. You can google them. We got 1 set for front door and 1 set for back. You simply walk the dog to the door, ring the bells and take him out. Repeat this a few times daily. I kid you not in less than 2 weeks my dog was ringing the bells and we never had an accident again indoors. He is 18 months now, he learned this around 4-5 months. When I first heard those bells ring I could not believe it!

Re: Transitioning from wee wee pad to outside...any advice?
We never used pads, but we tried to take our pup out at the same time each day and for almost the same amount of time. That way Bowser started to understand the routine and learned to hold it until he saw us getting ready to take him out.
Also, we praised him each and every time he went outside and even gave treats once and awhile to further show him that going outside was a good thing. I think the schedule and treats/praise helped a lot.
Good luck!

put the weewee pads next to the door that you will use to take the dog out. this way the dog associates the pad with the door. then put the pad outside when you bring the dog out. eventually they will go outside. hth..
