Transitioning to a toddler bed question

I know I am out of the norm since DD has been in a toddler bed for a few months already.

But now she knows who to twist, turn, and climb her way out.

I knew this was going to happen already since most toddlers can walk when they are put in the bed.

Is there anything you do to ensure they don't fall out or they stay in bed?

The past few nights she has been getting out of bed and cries because she is sitting on the floor and can't get back in.

The bed has half railings on the side. We went out and purchased full railings but it said "Do not use on a toddler bed"

TIA

I think they are concerned about arms, legs and head getting stuck between rail and bed.

I am not sure how old your daughter is, but if you blocked the entrance would she try to get out any way and topple over the side?

Wish I had advice, but my son could get in and out of his bed when we got it for him.

Good luck.

may I ask why you have your 9 month old in a toddler bed already? It woul dprobably be better to have her in a crib at this age...JMO

because that is the only way we could get her to sleep. she wasnt sleeping in her crib and we spent 3 weeks trying to let her CIO. it didn't work. she would fall asleep instantly in a bed so we bought a toddler bed and she sleeps WONDERFULLY.

However now that she can move, its not such a great thing and we tried putting her back in the crib. She wants her bed.

Can you put the mattress on the floor? That way if she rolls, at least she is low to the ground?

I would try putting her back in the crib and as hard as it is, she needs to learn that she has to be in there. I know you are in a tough spot, but I would be concerned for her safety being that she is only 9 months old. Maybe put some new toys in there, or rearrange the room....anything to get her back in the crib. It just seems to unsafe to me to have a baby that young not in a crib.

I never used a railing. I put a pillow along the outside of them. Also I cleared anything next to the bed in case they did fall out.

Im sorry but I have to agree. I just think 9 mths old is waay to young to be in a bed of any kind. Its safestfor her to be in the crib. Like she said...maybe adding some crib toys like the ocean wonder aquarium or a mobile would help? re positioning the crib? good luck!

I agree completely. Children, especially babies can't be expected to know what is best for them. JMO.

Very tough. I didn't put my son in a bed until he was 22 months, so I am not really sure I have any advice... Is there a way she can go in the crib and maybe put the railing down (I guess she would climbover it, no?). I agree with the other pp's, I would try and go back to the crib.

Re: Transitioning to a toddler bed question

Unfortunately you can't ensure they stay in the med once they become more mobile but since she isn't able to get back in once she falls out I'd just cushion the area around the bed with blankets, pillows or whatever. She'll have to fall asleep on the cushioned floor otherwise you'll have to keep getting up and putting her back in the bed or back to the crib.

I would also put her back in the crib. My concern would be that she starts crawling one night instead of sitting up crying and really injures herself.

When you did the CIO how did you go about it?
