transitioning to toddler bed-questions for BTDT moms
DD is 27 months, and we're thinking of getting her a bed. She's all over the crib at night. I can't imagine her staying under the covers and not flipping around all night! Anyone have a toddler who was like this? How did you switch them to the bed? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

DD was all over the crib too. I used to say that she did laps.
I put a small firm pillow in the crib. We made a big deal about sleeping on a big girl pillow. It kept her sleeping at least in the same direction.
She transitioned into the toddler bed as if no change happened at all.

I have the small pillow in there and she flings it around and doesn't sleep on it!
I'll keep trying though, thank you!

I also always put her "Paw-Paw" a dog on her right side and her tiger on her left side. I did this because it helps when we travel for the bed to look as similar as possible but I think it also helps orient her. Maybe you could try something like that?
Is she climbing out? If not I'd say wait a little while. If she is climbing or you need her out for another reason, try the bed, worst thing that happens is you put the crib back.

Re: transitioning to toddler bed-questions for BTDT moms
Before moving DS to a bed, he was ALL OVER the crib! Feet hanging through the bars, lets up the bars, upside down, inside out! I thought moving him to a bed would make him more comfortable and a more stable sleeper. Nope, he does the same in the bed. We have double bed rails and we folded up his comforter and stuffed it with pillows to put at the bottom of his bed. It acts a a barrier. It wasn't there the first night and he fell out! We keep a pillow at the top but he doesn't use it. He sleeps fine now every night, still all over the place. He uses a lightweight sleep blanket with feet during the summer and a fleece one in the winter. This way I don't worry about him staying under the blanket. I don't know how long he'll sleep like this
We moved DS to a bed about 3 months ago when he turned 2. We needed the crib for DS2. He did really well with the transition. Up until a week or so ago, he wouldn't get out of the bed until we came in to get him. Now he gets out when he's ready to be released. He's also starting to give me problems for naps, so I have to find ways to convince him to get in the bed. I think this would have happend even if he was in the crib though.
Good luck!

My son was all over the crib, and he's still all over the bed but the bedrails hold him in.
