Travel and Pregnancy

whats the rule on this. Ron and I are thinking of taking the kids skiing in two weeks. (of course I wont be skiing) I will be close to 7 months then. The place my friend wants us to go is about 4 hours away. I feel bad cancelling but not sure I should do this.

Re: Travel and Pregnancy

We're pretty much in the same dilema as we wanted to go away for a weekend before the baby comes, but I'll be further along than you are (around 35 weeks).

Ask your dr if it's ok.

Yeah you'll be ok. I went to virginia for Thanksgiving a 5 1/2 hr drive at 7 months---31 weeks. Just make sure you stop often to use the bathroom and walk to keep your circulation going. My midwife said it was ok---as long as I stopped when needed.

I travel a lot for my job and along with DH when he attends conferences. My dr said it was fine up until my 35th week.

I have been traveling every single week for work since I was pregnant and everything (knock on wood) is going great. I am 24 weeks now and will probably stop traveling at week 30. This baby is one good traveler! Chat Icon

Re: Travel and Pregnancy

Your guys are making me feel so much better. My midwife called and she said might be better to stay home. if its not a neccessary trip. She said I can go but to wear support panyhose, drink lots of water and stop every hour. Also to have lists of hopitals in route and in the area. I knew that part from a book I am reading. I dont care for long drives.....

I travel all of the time for work and my OB said I can fly through 32 weeks. We're planning a babymoon for my 26th week. We'll be flying to Mexico. I also have work travel planned through the 28th week already.

Re: Travel and Pregnancy

I think we will go. Spoke to ron and might also do a weekend babymoon in Jan at 7 months but right on LI. I am not a big flyer so not sure that stress would be good for me. We were thinking Spa at east wind. Any LI ideas for us for Jan.

I drove up to Cape Cod when I was 7.5 months pregnant & was perfectly fine. As long as your doctor is ok with it, I say go for it & get a spa treatment.

I would think you'll be fine as long as you can take a break on the drive & walk around a little bit.

Re: Travel and Pregnancy

Driving wise I wouldn't even think about it to be honest, definitely go and have a good time. Just listen to your body and what it needs as far as water, food, rest, etc.

I flew to DR 25-26w and we're driving all over the place right up until I deliver basically. Actually, if I haven't gone into labor yet, I plan to be at a shower in NJ 2 days before my due date Chat Icon

Re: Travel and Pregnancy

I have driven alone to visit my parents upstate (4 hrs north of the city) several times during the pregnancy...my upstate shower is in a couple of weeks and DH thinks he won't be able to drive me.
I'm not worried about it at all, but DH and his family are very nervous about the trips I take...
I would think you'd be fine, but that's with my comfort level...

Re: Travel and Pregnancy

I think at 7 months you are still ok to travel. I think you can up to 35 or 36 wks and than they want you close to home incase you go into labor.
