Air travel during pregnancy?
How many of you traveled during your pregnancy and where?
I will be going into my 2nd trimester soon and I would like to go on a short little trip. The doctor said it's fine and I do have Jet Blue credit to use before December. I had planned a trip to the Bahamas back in Dec 06' but due to an emergency (my surgery for my ectopic pregnancy) I had to cancel it. So the credit is there to use up.
What are thoughts? What kind of precautions did you take? My husband says he would like to go the Bahamas but I would feel more comfortable somewhere in the states god forbid anything.

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
I think if your pregnancy is normal and you are not high risk you should be fine travelling in the 2nd trimester. Plenty of people go to the Bahamas.
I'd just double check with the airline and your doctor as to their preferences, but I think it would be wonderful. DH and I never got a chance to take a babymoon

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
I flew to Texas to see friends at 19 weeks. It was okay, I felt fine, except it was a full flight and I had the middle seat, at one point I felt very overheated & like I was going to pass out...I drank some water and took off my sweater & put my head down & it passed in about 10 minutes.
Coming home we had major bad luck w/ DFW being closed & we got grounded in Dallas for a day, but otherwise it was fine.
Just drink lots of water & dress in layers. You should be fine.

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
Check with your DR. If you are having a normal pregnancy you will be ok to go to the bahamma's. We will be going to Puerto Rico in May and I will be around 24 weeks by then

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
Definitely check with your Dr. but since Bahamas is a short flight I think you should be OK. I flew to southern Florida (about a 2.5 hr flight) when I was about 12 wks and my dr told me to just make sure I get up and walk around once every half hour. I'm going again in 2 weeks (ill be 24 wks) and she said the same thing.

I flew to Florida at 22 weeks and DH and I went on a babymoon to St. John at 26 weeks. I had no problems whatsoever - you should definitely take the opportunity to travel without a child while you can!

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
It's fine, go to the Bahamas. We recently went on a cruise to a bunch of carribean islands for a week and I have a blood clotting disorder. My dr. said it was fine as long as I use the lovenox. Ask your Dr. about blood clotting if you want as a precaution. Whatever you do...enjoy!!

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
I just flew last week (I was 15 weeks)...my doctor told me the following:
Get up and walk around at least once an hour and stay hydrated. I will advise you to sit close to the front of the plane. I was in the back, and actually got sick on the way down to St. John. The flight back was better for me. Also, pack snacks in your carry on bag. Enjoy!

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
I just flew to Cancun during my 20th week.
Dr. advised me to wear support hose on the flights (which I did but hated every second of it). I drank lots and lots of water - probably about 1-2 cups an hour. Got up and stretched frequently (purposely reserved an aisle seat). Wore loose clothing (except for the support hose) tried to sit with my feet flat on floor and roll my ankles often.
I experienced no discomfort or problems.
If your Doctor ok'd if I think you'll be fine.
I kept the numbers for the consulate, 3 hospitals, one where English was spoken, and emergency air evacuation with me. We also agreed that at the slightest sign of a problem I'd be on the first possible flight to the states.
I was VERY careful and used sunblock religiously, only drank bottled water and was very mindful of what I ate.
Again not a single problem and we had a terrific time.

Re: Air travel during pregnancy?
I did it in both pregnancies in the second trimester. I will say that it was uncomfortable. I tried to get up and walk around as much as possible. I think I made people nervous though, since I would just stand up and look around. I also would stick my legs into the aisle and stretch them whenever I got a chance.
