Traveling on an airplane with bottles
Do I pre-make them with the formula or have the powder separately?

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
I flew 4 hours (cross country) each way with my DS, 13 months at the time.
Bring the powder and buy water or milk after you get through security.
Some security guards will let you through with it mixed, but others wont. You dont want to end up having to throw away all of the mixed formula and having nothing for DC to drink!
Also, bring a pacifier for take off and landing. it helps with the pressure change and their ears.
If you bring an umbrella stroller, you can take it right up to the gate with you and check it there. They will leave it for you as you are exiting the plane - so much easier to get through the airport with a stroller rather than carrying DC around!
Any smaller toys that DC likes, books, crayons ,etc. If DC is into movies, you can bring a small DVD player or laptop.
Good luck! I found that most people were pretty understanding.

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
Not sure about the formula, but I just flew on sunday at took 2 eight ounce bottles of milk on board and noone said anything. I even showed them it and they said fine. I imagine it would be the same with formula. I put the bottles in a huge ziplock bag. I think it is fine.

if you can i would just have the powder seperatly. It makes it easier for you. You just mix it when you need it. It's the TSA that checks your bag and traveling with an infant and bottles of food is allowable.

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
I have traveled back and forth to Florida twice recently. Both times I took sippy cups filled with water/juice as well as 2 bottles of water (like poland springs bottles). When asked, I said it was for the baby. They just had to test the liquids and I had to keep them separate in the bin that went through security.

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
I also have flown a few times and never had a problem getting through security with any of the water or powder. BUT... I thought I was being smart and efficient and put the water in the Dr Browns bottles and fig I would just add the powder when on the plane... well... the pressure during take-off caused the water to come up the straw and leaked all over my diaper bag.... so don't do that! LOL.... Here I thought I would be able to make a bottle real quick and it was just a disaster!

I have always prepared the bottles with the water and have the formula in it's dispenser.

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
Do you think if I have the powder in zip lock bags that would be ok? I am afraid it will look like cocaine lol! I hate using those formula plastic containers b/c the powder mixes across the boarders..

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
I carry the powder in a plastic container and just get water once we are on the plane. I fed my DD right before we got the plane so we didn't need water right away. They sell the perfect container for travel but I can't find a pic of the one I use.

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
I have this one for formula and have never had an issue of the formula going into the other sections. It is by Nuby.

Re: Traveling on an airplane with bottles
I checked the TSA website - they no longer test formula/breastmilk.
