TRAVELLING W BABY?????

hub and i are planning a cruise trip in June with our son who will be 16mos by then. we'll have to fly to the cruise ship.

has anyone here travelled by air with your baby?
if so, did you bring your carseat? i'm planning on it (but would like your input) and i'll be purchasing this thing that can be attached to the carseat and wheel around. did you have to purchase a seat on the plane because of teh carseat? or did the plane attendants stow it away for you?

i won't be bringing our stroller on board the plane/cruise. it's a matter of not trusting the baggage handlers. so i'm thinking of buying one of those ride-ons. my husband's thinking it may be too difficult to lug arround and onto a plane then cruise. do you think so? i don't think i can hold him for a lengthy time when he gets tired from walking. so instead of getting a stroller i can beat up, how's about a ride-on..? RIDE-ON vs STROLLER. what are your thoughts?

thanks everyone!

Re: TRAVELLING W BABY?????

I went to Disney when Hayley was 13 months old. We didn't buy a seat, she slept on my DH the entire plane ride.

I'm sorry, but bringing that buggy is silly. Where are you going to put in in a cabin on a cruise? Just go buy an inexpensive stroller if you don't want the luggage handlers putting your good stroller under the plane. I bought a cheap $40 stroller to go to Disney last year. It reclines and has a basket under it and the stroller itself isn't that large would fit better in the cabin.

We brought our carseat with us. It's the safest way to travel. I just put the carseat upside down over a wheeled carry-on bag. We brought an umbrella stroller. You can have DC in the stroller right up to the plane, and they'll stow it separately for you. It will be waiting for you on the gangplank once you exit the plane.

I wouldn't bother with the ride-on. An umbrella stroller is lighter, about the same price, easier to deal with, etc. It folds up really small, so it's easy to transport and store. The ride on would need to be put in several cars, and stored in your cabin, plus go on the plane. I wouldn't want to deal with that.

I would bring your regular every day stroller. Bring it with you to the gate and they check it separetly from the regular luggage. You get it right back as soon as you get off the plane. As for the car seat, unless you're planning on buying Dc a seat, I would probably skip it.

Re: TRAVELLING W BABY?????

I took John on a cruise at 16 months also. We always bought him a seat, (he's been on planes since he was 4 months old) mainly because we didnt want to have to deal with a passenger being "stuck" next to a baby.

We took our peg perego stroller on the boat, we wheeled him onto the ship ourselves, no baggage handler touched the stroller, we folded the stroller and stowed it under the bed when it wasnt being used.

If you dont want to bring your stroller, buy a lite-weight umbrella stroller, they take up virtually no room

Re: TRAVELLING W BABY?????

We just got back this past sunday from a cruise with our 15 month DS...The stroller was GREAT!!!!! It was no big deal with the plane, and even easier for the boat. He loved just being pushed in his stroller looking at the peole and stores, and all the activities. Alot of the times we dropped the back of it, and he fell asleep, so there was no need to wake him, this included the dining room and the shows at night. So we never had to miss a show.
