Treadmill 1 Mile

What should you aim for in terms of how fast you can do one mile?

I have never used the treadmill before this year Chat Icon but I am now doing it 1-2 times a week and trying to fit in more time... but I can only do 1 mile in 15 minutes and that seems very slow...

Re: Treadmill 1 Mile

When I first started it took me that long also. Im a very slow runner. Now I can do it in a little under 10 minutes if Im just running 1 mile. I try to stay around the 10-11 minute range if Im running 3-5 miles. I really slow it down for longer than that.

Re: Treadmill 1 Mile

I'm not sure I aim for anything but getting faster and faster.

To get faster do intervals. Run at your comfortable pace, then increase it until you feel like your running really fast and do that as long as you can, till your gasping for air, then catch your breath while running your comfortable pace & do it again and again. If you can do a 15min mile now, next time aim for a 14:50 mile. Then aim for a 14:40 mile...slowly increasing your goals.

Before you know it your comfortable pace will increase. You have to push yourself to get there.

Re: Treadmill 1 Mile

when i began running i was around 12-13 min miles. now i aim for around 10-10.5 min miles. the more you run, the better you'll feel at a faster pace. but take it in increments. walk 2 mins, jog 1 minute then do an all out run for a minute and repeat. eventually begin to run longer and walk for shorter periods. take it at your pace and you'll find a good stride Chat Icon

remember that it is very individual. Use your time as a benchmark and work to improve it.
