Treadmill Accident?

So last week I just started running on the treadmill and my towel fell off the top so like an idiot instead of shutting off the machine I put my feet on the side bent down and my knee hit the belt which sent my flying off and I dislocated my shoulder, cuts, brusies the whole bit! So after the ER visit and my shoulder was put back in place I saw an orthopedist and all is okay I was cleared to run again. Last night was my first night back on the treadmill (although I ran find outside on saturday and sunday) and I was having such anxieties while running and literally had to stop several times. Mind you I was running much slower than normal. I hope this goes away please tell me this is normal! I feel like I am tramatized by the stupid treadmill Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

OMG, that is sooooo scary! Glad you're ok now. It's expected that you're a little nervous now (I'm surprised that you were able to get back on so quickly!) but slowly, the anxiety goes away.

Re: Treadmill Accident?

Wow that is super scary! Personally I'd be scared to even get back on a treadmill.

But I'm hoping that it's something that will blow over and you'll be fine.

Treadmills can be traumatizing. Hope you are feeling better and just go easy. Soon enough we will all be able to run outside. Darn weather!

Glad you are feeling better!! That is one of my biggest fears too. Sometimes when I'm messing around with my ipod I think "ummm you better pay attention to what your feet are doing!" I'm sure the feeling will go away, especially since you fell while doing something, its not like you just tripped and fell ya know. Chat Icon

Re: Treadmill Accident?

I've never actually fallen off of one, but this fear is always on my mind. Big part of the reason I stopped running pregnant. Those things can be scary!

So happy you're ok!!!

Re: Treadmill Accident?

I have a fear of the treadmill and after reading this story I have decided not to conquer that fear.

I hope you're feeling better and that it warms up soon so we can all go out for a run!

No you have to conquer that fear. I forced myself to get on it on Tuesday and although I was a nervous wreck and stopped 20 times I still did it! then I went back on Wed and Thursday. I figured I cannot let this take over me and you shouldn't either. Just don't be a dummy like me and make sure you pause the button before getting off or anything!

Re: Treadmill Accident?

I'm glad that you got back on right away - that helps! I had an accident on one when I was about 13 and I was petrified of them for years (I flew off, cut my leg open on the way & then hit a wall). I finally got back on one about 5 years ago & it took a lot of effort & courage. Slowly, but surely all of my fear went away & now I use one all the time at home. Just keep at it like you are & eventually you'll be as comfortable as you used to be, albeit a little more aware/conscious of what you're doing Chat Icon Chat Icon
