Treat Question
The breeder told me what type of food to get for my new puppy (Nutro). But for treats and training she said anything is fine. Can anyone recommend something?, there is so much to choose from! Thanks!
Here is the latest picture I got of her, she is 5 weeks. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Treat Question
First let me say that she is adorable!!!! We used Cheerios for Chewie to train him and for treats and he LOVES them! The vet said they are healthy so you can use as many as you want to train.

Re: Treat Question
What a cute little puppy! For treats, we give Bama Old Mother Hubbard bones (they have puppy sized ones), and also Solid Gold jerky treats (they're small and soft).

Re: Treat Question
When we were training both our dogs, we used baby carrots. I used to freeze them for the puppy since he was teething and it helped. I saved the yummy treats for something special.

Re: Treat Question
there are actually "training treats" they come in a red bag, they are square and the cover has a Saluki dog on the front. thats what i always got them for training. id rip them in half...as your dog looks tiny too. (shih-tzu?)
but now that they are adults i give tehm (the same brand) the green bag. it has long beefy sticks in htem. i cut those up too.
but they LOVE Snauseges most of all.
etA: i believe Nutro makes those treats as well!

Re: Treat Question
We buy Train Me Treats. Larry David LOVES them. They're somewhat soft, and we only give him hard food, so maybe that's why. But they're very small.
I do like the idea of Cheerios too. We give LD Special K sometimes as a treat when we run out of the Train Me ones.
Then for regular treats, he loves nice and simple milk bones. Every once in a while I'll buy a bag of 'good' treats for special things but mostly he'll get a biscuit or 2 a day and he's thrilled.
here's the train me treats we get:
ETA: congrats on the puppy!!! forgot to say that!

Re: Treat Question
so cute!! good luck with her.
Oh, you might want to get an alarm clock and keep it near her when she is sleeping. It relaxes them, because it sounds like the mother's heartbeat!!

I feed my puppy nutro :)
I also froze baby carrots as chews for him at first (he's 7 months now), for training I mix up some lamb training bits, with cheerios, diced ham, and charlie bear treats (they are little disc-like things-think small oyster cracker) the cheerios pick up the flavor of the other things.

Re: Treat Question
Simba LOVES cheerios. We also give him bacon stripes and some treats that look like tiny t-bone steaks. He loves Milk Bones and we give him one in the morning. He also has his rawhyde bones he chews on during the day.
