Treats....dog/cat
Part 1-Ok Gus is a fatty McFatty. He's 120lbs of pure bouncing, stupid, lovable yellow lab. He looooooooooooves treats and in particular Rawhides. My Mom gives them to him like mad, and we just don't anymore. He'll eat only the rawhide and no food. What are your dogs favorite treats? I don't care what it is/they are......I just want to show my dog there's more to life then Rawhide With Christmas coming I need ideas for his stocking.
Part2- Daisy is about 6months old and Christmas is coming up for her soon too. What are some good ideas to fill her stocking with as well???
I'm looking for food/treat/toy ideas!!! TIA

Re: Treats....dog/cat
I don't know about dog treats, but when my cats were kittens, we'd get the Pounce treats in a can. They'd go nuts whenever we shook the can, and they LOVED the treats. I had to hide them because they eventually figured out how to knock it over and pry the lid off to get out the treats.

Re: Treats....dog/cat
If your dog is overweight, don't give him treats!!! 120lbs sounds pretty darn big!
When our Golden was over 100lbs our vet suggested cutting his food amount with frozen string beans ... meaning if at one feeding he got two cups of food, instead he got one cup of food, one cup of frozen string beans.
Bailey got trim and loved the string beans! Now the poor guy is getting old and we need to fatten him up a bit!

Re: Treats....dog/cat
If he's overweight then def cut out the treats. and I would cut down on the amt of food that he is eating or maybe change it to a healthy weight food.
Eukanuba makes low calorie biscuits,(they are small) and most likely you will have to get them at the vet....but that can be a good option for rewards, instead of high fat raw hides.

Re: Treats....dog/cat
I agree Gus is a bit large, but he's not that overweight. He could lose about 10lbs, but he is just a BIG dog. He's an american lab so his head is huge and blocky, his shoulders are massive, and he stands to about my thighs. I know we need to cut down on treats and we have, and we already ration his food to 3cups a day. He can only eat the Lamb and Rice because of his sensative stomach. The problem is that Joe doesn't walk/run him like he should. As soon as they start running the weight will melt off......Any ideas on Christmas ideas for him and Daisy??? Daisy LOVES the pounce treats and goes COMPLETELY NUTS for cat nip. ANy more ideas for the holidays????

Re: Treats....dog/cat
We bought squeeky toys, nylabones, and liver treats, as well as kong treats flavored like peanut butter for Daisy who will be 7 months old at Xmas.

Re: Treats....dog/cat
I really don't give the dog treats like rawhides or a lot of cookies.
She weighs 60 pounds and gets 2 cups of food a day - 1 in the a.m. and 1 in plm. and no more than 3 milkbones a day.
For treats we buy her chew hooves, Kongs, and toys. Rawhide isn't good for their digestive systems anyway, so I prefer to stay away.
ETA: We get Espresso (the cat) - crinkly balls, mice and a new scratching board. Plus I will get him a package of Salmon treats or something like that. We always have a container of Pounce Tartar Control around the house.
