Trendy renovations

Do you avoid doing renovations that are trendy? I really want to put glass tile in my 2nd bathroom renovation and now I'm second guessing it because it's trendy. I feel like I don't want to look at something in 5 years and say "what was I thinking?" Most of our renovations so far We tried to stay neutral and classic.

I feel like things like tiles are not so susceptible to trends, compared to general decor. For example Michael's is now full of industrial chic stuff which will be 70% off in six months when a new trend kicks in. I think if you want glass tile you should do it.

Re: Trendy renovations

I am in the process of redoing my kitchen. I have redone alot of my house, bathrooms would be next. I will never pick something that i think is trendy, or dated. I steer very clear of it. I just went to pick out my kitchen backsplash and would not even consider glass tiles, they are extremely trendy and dated iMO.

I think if you make choices that you love they will always be in style.
But that also depends on how long you plan to stay in your home. If you plan to stay forever, then make decorating/remodeling decisions based on you. If it is a 10 year home, then go more neutral/timeless.
I don't think glass tiles are dated but certain color schemes and styles would be trendy.

With glass tile too much is too much and soon will looked dated, that said you can do a glass border and that would be fine I just wouldn't overdo it, if that makes sense.

Re: Trendy renovations

DH and I did what we liked in our bathroom gut reno. We don't care about trendy, we just care about what we like.
Trends come and go, but I am not going to redo my bathroom every couple of years.

Kitchen reno is next.
