tricks for getting them to take gross meds?

Help!

DS is on prednisone and it tastes terrible, he spits it out and last night made himself puke after finally got a little in him.

tried mixing in pudding this morning, no luck.

HELP!!!! what else can we do?

Poor kid!
Call a local pharmacy (not Walgreens, but an independent).
See what they can do.
Ask to speak to the pharmacist over the phone.

Most pharmacies (including Walgreens) can try to flavor it.

I was going to suggest putting it in chocolate pudding but you already said that doesn't work. My only other trick is to give a lollipop with the med. It still tastes gross, but the lollipop distracts them.

That is a hard one since it's such a strong taste.

We try to mix it with something else - it fools my older DS (5) but, my younger DS (3) catches us.

We usually hold DS 2 down, put the dropper to the back of his mouth and have a drink there right next to him to wash it down (he still manages to spit some out though).

I bought a slurpee and let it melt and mixed a little with the medicine and used a medicine dropper

how old is DS?

when DD was 3 she was on a antibiotic for c-diff...it was DISGUSTING! we had it flavored grape, but it was still really gross.

we let her eat m&m's before and then right after she took it. the sugar helped...just like mary poppins said! :)

there was still a LOT of yelling and screaming, but eventually it worked. and my dd threw up once because she was so upset about it. Ah, the dramatics!

When DS was about 2 he would fight us when it came time to give medicine. So I would take out the sugar bowl, give him a small spoon that was wet and let him dip it in water and then the sugar. We would let him do that two or three times and then I would dip the dropper with the medicine in it into the sugar and say 'have some of mine' and just squirt it into the back of his mouth. The sugar on the dropper helped along with the sugar he had on his spoon.

I fill one syringe with meds and one with water and try to squirt a little of both in his mouth at the same time.

thanks all... we did talk to pharmacy, they did flavor it and it is still awful. but I will try some of these tricks!!!!

oh and he is 2!

can't they just make medicine taste good!!!

Try chocolate syrup....It is thick and has a strong taste
