Trouble changing diapers
My DD is 3 weeks old and the past few days has really started to freak out during diaper changes. She never liked them, but now she almost turns purple from screaming so much and it seems like she stops breathing b/c she is crying so hard. I am only using warm water on cotton balls or viva paper towels, drying, vaseline and then diapering. I don't know if she is in pain, something is wrong, or if this is normal. It scares me to see her so upset and was concerned. Has anyone experienced this? TIA

Re: Trouble changing diapers
Are you doing all of that if she just pees? Maybe you could elminate all the other steps unless she poops. I don't wipe DD or put anything on her butt other than a diaper when she pees and our diaper changes are quick and painless.

Thats all I do too.
Noah hated the changing table at first, then I found a toy I could hang above it and now he looks for the toy and enjoys it more.

Because the more you rub that area it starts to get raw and uncomfortable for the child. Since my girls were preemies i have a nurse that comes and check on the girls to see if they are developing properly and when she 1st visited when i brought them home she told me to just wipe and use desitin when they poop.

Oh but you are still using wipes right? Someone had mentioned that the diaper absorbs the urine and you wouldnt have to wipe. I wasnt understanding that part...

I only wipe when he poops too. When he pees I just change the diaper really quick. When he poops, I wipe, put A&D on and then the diaper.
To the OP, unless there is some medical reason, you can use wipes if that will make it quicker to change her. Also is there a reason you use vaseline? And not something like desitin, A&D or butt paste?

Re: Trouble changing diapers
I only use A(ss) & D(ick) cream or Desatin if her heiney is pink. Not every time I change her, not even every time she poops. Only if she's pink (maybe twice or three times since she's been home -- and she'll be 7 weeks old tomorrow).
I have been using wipes after she pees but now I won't.

Re: Trouble changing diapers
I only wipe for poops and every few pee diapers I will do a quick wipe. I don't air dry because Kiatee hates that. I only put vaseline on when she looks like she might be getting a rash (she has only had 3 mild rashes in 1 year, so I have only used creams and vaseline a few times). I swear by the vaseline that comes in the tube. Every other cream didn't work with Kaitee. Butt oaste made her rashes worse. It takes me less than 30 seconds to change Kaitee. Try to keep it quick!

It's really not necessary to wipe urine. Urine is Sterile, so it's not like it's going to cause an infection of some sort. When I change DD, her area is not wet from the pee. The diaper absorbs it all. If she happens to pee while her diaper is off, then I wipe the wetness off.

Re: Trouble changing diapers
I dont wipe when he pees b/c I think someone said it above....urine is sterile and theres no reason to wipe...
I use a diaper rash cream only when hes red, maybe 1-4 times a week ( and thats out of what..like 50 plus diaper changes)

Re: Trouble changing diapers
I always use a wipe--if it's pee or poop. I think of urine as being very acidic. I also always put A&D on DD. I never thought that anyone really did anything different....very interesting.

Yeah, I don't see the need for the vaseline/creams if there is no sign of diaper rash/irritation. That could be part of the problem.
I've always just used the baby wipes and never towels or anything else.
With my daughter I probably wiped (with pee only) about 50% of the time just to be sure she's cleaned off. My sister suffered with rashes and yeast infections as a baby and I didn't want to see her go through it. With my son, I wipe him (pee only) about 20% of the time and really only the cracks in his legs and such to get the lint out.
