Trouble falling asleep for 2nd nap??

Last week & this week DS has not been falling asleep well for his 2nd nap (at 1pm)---2x in the past 5 days he hasn't gone to sleep in an hour (thats my cut off) so he has gone without a second nap & gone to bed early. He doesn't cry, just plays in his crib. I am not sure what to do?
He gets lots of run around time in the morning, we go outside if its nice or not raining. He is almost 16 months----maybe its time for one nap (I thought it was before, but then he went back to taking 2 naps well)----how do I go about doing this?? He goes down well for his first nap at 9am, I never let him sleep past 10:30. Help!!

Re: Trouble falling asleep for 2nd nap??

How old is he? Is it possible he is ready to transition one nap a day?

ETA: I missed where it said he was 16 months.

It was right around then that DS transistioned from one morning and one afternoon nap to one 2-3 hour nap. Now he goes down around 11 and sleeps until 1 or 2. Try one nap a day, but push his morning nap time back until later so hes not an overtired mess by the end of the day bc the first nap was so early.

It takes some adjusting for the news times but I find DS has a more quality nap now. Plus 2-3 hours in the middle of the day is a nice break for Mommy to relax and still get a lot done around the house.

ETA again: to push the naps back if he isnt able to make it until the later nap time cold turkey, try to move them 15 minutes later every day.

Good luck!

Re: Trouble falling asleep for 2nd nap??

DS started to refuse his afternoon nap around 10 months, which is earlier than most and horrified me initially. But over time, it became so much easier with one nap. At 16 months, I'd say DC probably is ready for one nap a day.

He started out keeping his morning nap, which was rough for awhile because he was up so long and inevitably got cranky but wouldn't sleep later in the day. I started moving his morning nap back a bit every few days, so if I put him down at 9:30, I started putting him down at 10:00. Eventually, he settled where he is now, at 12:00-12:30.

I do like it better though, because he's asleep for one long chunk of time rather than two short spurts.
