I was amazed that you were worried about him taking money to buy parts for a car that he said he wasn't going to buy but bought a week later anyway.

I guess you really need to know alittle more about me and Jake to really understand our way of living
he only makes comission- and has both good and bad months
I stash money away all the time for the bad months and he is always thankful to me for it- when he is stressing b/c a loan didn't close in time- and I say but I have the month to cover the bills for a few weeks- he would never be mad about it
so I guess I should have posted that

Anytime you ask someone what THEY would do in YOUR situation, you are opening yourself to be judged.
I don't think anyone said "Beth - you suck and you are a horrible person."
They wanted to know more information about things you brought up and had questions about it.
Also, you yourself said you were afraid you were a pushover and have brought this kind of topic up numerous times (money and compromise issues between you and Jake) so I think people were taking some of your posts as an aggregate and trying to give more generalized advice.

whatever works in your relatipnship is fine.
If you guys have agreed to keep money separate and make separate decisions, then that's great - more power to you.
but when you ask for advice, you have to assume that not everyone has the same system
