Trump Team Unaware
I read this in the paper and was just astounded.
I really do believe Trump thought being POTUS is just some kind of honorary title/figurehead with other people doing all the work. I don't want Trump to fail but God help us if he and his team didn't realize the magnitude of the presidency. They have a staff of THOUSANDS to replace and vet.
I must add that Obama is a much better person than I will ever be. To be so gracious and go above and beyond to help Trump after he tried to delegitimatize him throughout his entire presidency says everything about him. Whether you agree/disagree with his policies or like/dislike President Obama, you cannot deny he is and has always been a good and decent man.

Re: Trump Team Unaware
Beyond scary. But then again, remember the call Kasich got about being offered the most "important vice presidency in history"--being in charge of all the work?
Shouldn't that have tipped us off?
Or when his own team said that it was tough to get him to sit down and learn/study for the debates?
We. Knew.
ETA: This is not like any other presidency. It doesn't matter who disagrees with whom over what. There was always someone up to the task in the seat.
This is terrifying.

Right ? Lol. Man I knew they wanted smaller government but geez… that's a lot of people to hire in a short amount of time… This is why Obama now is going to help tutor him Which is absolutely ridiculous… And just shows that he and his team are not ready… This really is like when you completely lied on your resume and got a job and now you're have no idea what to do and the person you're replacing now has to stay a few months longer to train you.

I'm starting to think he thought he could just sit around and just hire everyone to do all the work. If things went well, he'd take credit. If things tanked, /someone else would get the blame.

Re: Trump Team Unaware
Okay, give me a break. I was actually shocked when I heard that typically the transition meeting is 15 minutes long. When I have left jobs it has taken me a week or two to train my replacements. This is the president and there is no real transition period. They spent an hour and a half together and that was consider a really long time. That actually scares me.
And as far as not knowing you have to replace the staff of the White House - did anyone else know that? I wouldn't think that you would have to replace housekeepers and chefs. If I were him I would just let them all keep their jobs. I don't think that the president should be wasting his time hiring a new cleaning staff...
The media hates Trump. They are clearly trying to show him in a bad light but this is grasping at straws. And the fact that people eat it up says even more about how stupid Americans are.

I've been thinking about this since the weekend and it really is like Trump is going to summer school to learn how to be POTUS. He's going to be cramming on how to govern and run America in two short months.

The White House is where the President lives and works, so most staffers do a lot more than clean. It's literally the administration of his office.
I am alarmed that his "excellent people" had no idea how things would work.

Are you being serious? Do you know how many people work in the West Wing? It's not housekeepers and cleaning staff. It's people with an actual specialized skill set. People that help run the government and make policies.

I am sure he knew the people that needed to be replaced. The comments are deliberately vague for a reason, so that they can be misinterpreted. The man is not an idiot, he's actually very intelligent. If you told me George Bush didn't think that important roles in the west wing needed to be replaced with his own staff I would believe it, but not Trump.

Just look at what you are reading:
"people familiar with the meeting"
If this was legit it would be real people with names. This sounds like something I would read in a tabloid but people eat it up because it's in the WSJ. That's how low our media has sunk.

It only has to be 15 minutes because most people running for the highest office in the land PREPARE for the job before they are elected. Trump was too busy tweeting, and making america great again to prepare. The white house staff is much more than house keeping and chefs. This has nothing to do with Media. Trump creates his own bad light, he is like a dog with a tail between his legs now.

If you look at his transition team, almost half have little to no government experience. His children/son-in-law make up a quarter of it. They definitely have no govt experience.
Believe what you will. But Trump's demeanor and body language at the end of that meeting seems to corroborate the article. Trump even said Obama would counsel him on the transition.

You're supposed to have a transition team working on all these logistics during the presidential campaign. Since it's a massive undertaking it gives the potential president-elect admin to thoughtfully fill so many positions and not be scrambling to fill them.

Oh please. He runs a multi billion dollar company which is basically what the government is...a big corporation. Why would he keep any West Wing staff besides the house staff and even that he doesn't have too. Every single story that comes out about what a staffer may of heard is not always true.
And as far as Obama being gracious. He should be, that is his job. If he didn't then he is no better than what you are accusing of Trump of being every single day. The bar was set high for transition teams after Bush left, thankfully not taking cues from the Clinton staff who stole all the w's off the keyboards.

It makes me ill too. Its sickening that we have a President Elect who has 0 Experience. Hilary was prepared to president. She doesn't need to have someone to teach her how to govern. She is aware and knowledgeable of all the issues currently going on in our world. I bet if you gave Trump a map he couldn't name 1/4 of the countries around the world. Trumps experience is in licensing his name not running the world. I'd love to believe he was something other than a bigot and liar but when you surround yourself with men who are are bigots and antisemitic what am I to believe. When he himself says racist and sexist remarks constantly how can I believe him to be something other. Ever hear the saying "believe someone when they show you who they are". If you can lay down your head at night and think Trump is a good man who is ready to lead our nation good for you. I'm not there yet and doubt I'll ever be.

Okay if there is a person that holds an advisory position in the West Wing, I am sure that Trump is aware that he would want to replace that person with someone that he knows and trusts. He is not an idiot although many of you seem to dismiss him as one.
I was mocking George Bush, although I do personally like him - but he definitely had more of a reputation as the village idiot while he was in office (remember the pronunciation of nuclear?).
Trumps whole platform was based on the fact that most politicians are corrupt so faulting him for never holding a public office is clearly not going to matter to those that elected him. As far as I am concerned some of these semantics are not as important as the bigger picture.
This whole board has kind of turned into a train wreck that I can't look away from, no matter how hard I want to!

I'm not faulting him for not having held office, although it would've been a huge help in that regard. But he ran a platform as not being a politician and I have no confidence that he is taking this job seriously now. He will be president now. Just because he never held office is no excuse to not be prepared and knowledgable about his duties as commander in chief.
And I do remember lol nucular... Bigly, yuge... Potato potahto.

All I am saying is that I wouldn't use this article to form an opinion that he is unprepared. You may have that opinion from other reasons but this article is not a good one.

Re: Trump Team Unaware
Would Kasich's account of the VP call show that he was unprepared/unwilling to take on the work? Asking in all seriousness.
Or the reports that he couldn't sit still to study for the debates?
Or not being willing to live in the White House full time?
Or the thing about how he might be able to take a few months off like Congress does?
