The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden.
His decision to use his platform to condone rather than condemn the actions of his supporters at the Capitol building has rightly disturbed people in the US and around the world. We removed these statements yesterday because we judged that their effect -- and likely their intent -- would be to provoke further violence.
Following the certification of the election results by Congress, the priority for the whole country must now be to ensure that the remaining 13 days and the days after inauguration pass peacefully and in accordance with established democratic norms.
Over the last several years, we have allowed President Trump to use our platform consistent with our own rules, at times removing content or labeling his posts when they violate our policies. We did this because we believe that the public has a right to the broadest possible access to political speech, even controversial speech. But the current context is now fundamentally different, involving use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.
We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.
How bad do you have to be as potus to have your FB account shut down? .... well, we all know the answer to that...

When the leader of our nation does NOTHING but spew misinformation, hate, division and propaganda then he needs to be censored. 100% FB and especially Twitter should have reacted WAY sooner than this.
ETA - The president is NOT a private citizen, given his power and position there needs to be a level of accountability when it comes to the words he speaks and the information he dispenses. He doesn't get to have the luxury of spouting off about whatever pops into his tiny little brain, he is the POTUS and MUST be held to a higher standard. His words, as we have seen, have consequences.

The President has other ways to communicate other than social media. Any sane President would have gone on Live TV and made a statement. Not put out a recorded video full of lies saying "we love you" on Twitter.

You are missing a VERY critical point here and that is that Trump is an elected official and the leader of the nation, if we cannot trust our PRESIDENT to disseminate truth and facts via social media (or any outlet for that matter) then he needs to censored. Without question. His words can have EXTREME consequences both domestically and abroad.
You cannot compare the ramblings of a private citizen with no authority or power to that of the president. Not even a little bit.

Trump is in NO WAY a victim. He is the product of his own making.
NO other president has EVER made himself the center of attention day in and day out for YEARS. NO other president has gone out of his way to DIVIDE and speak to his base only. NO other president has ever used social media EXCLUSIVELY as a way to a address the American people. NO other president has spent ALL of his time tweeting and name calling a d degrading others.
You are on another planet, I hope that one day you're able to come out of your Trump haze and see reality.

He's not being banned because "we don't like what he says." He's being banned for inciting violence as ANYONE should be. That's not censorship, which is what you are trying to describe.

I agree with you that it should be TV like it used to be as I don’t go on Twitter and honestly hear about these tweets from others.
People used to sit down and watch the evening news and read newspapers. Long gone is that with social media and I am shocked sometimes how clueless people are of not just news but even the weather.

And you shouldn’t as, as much as we don’t like his tweets, we will turn into a socialist society if we start banning things because we don’t like what you say.
You complain he hasn’t spoken out about the woman who got killed but praising how they have blocked him from posting on social media. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Social media is not the same as official POTUS media distribution. I shouldn't have to explain that to you.... Every other President managed to get important news out to the public without a Twitter account or FB account...
He should be using official channels for official information. He should not be using social media for spewing hatred and incendiary, violent speech.
The First Amendment has limits.
No other President was attacked like he was and found the need (yes many times he should have gotten off) to explain himself.
How many times how we heard people say they can’t stand listening to his voice so they don’t watch briefings. How many people never watch TV.
You know I totally agree with the limiting tweets and I don’t know if he will have another briefing today as I am watching fluff as it is too much after while. Maybe he will since he has no other outlet now.
If you agree on limiting his tweets, then how will he get his message out? You can't have your cake and eat it too... unless you're really agreeing with us just don't realize it...
I agree with you that it should be TV like it used to be as I don’t go on Twitter and honestly hear about these tweets from others.
People used to sit down and watch the evening news and read newspapers. Long gone is that with social media and I am shocked sometimes how clueless people are of not just news but even the weather.
You mean like how we're all SHOCKED at how clueless you are about politics and what is happening in the world?

The POTUS shouldn't be choosing social media to make an official statement about a casualty (that he caused). There are/were other forms of communication before social media came along, or did you forget because you got so used to a president communicating to you mainly through his deranged, unstable, and incoherent daily nonstop tweets?

I’m ok with it. They can purge the profiles/delete all Q anon psychos too. After yesterday, ALL of those who people who entered the Capitol should no longer be US citizens. Their citizenship should be revoked.
