Trusting Contractor

Anyone else feel like it is hard to trust a contractor? I'm trying to redo 2 bathrooms, and I feel like I can't find one that I think will do a good quality job and will be honest. Especially when it comes to installing tile. I had a bad experience when we redid the kitchen. We have angie's list, but I'm not finding that too helpful. We've gotten 4 estimates, but I'm not just ready to hire someone yet.

If we didn't have a friend who was a contractor I don't know how I would've choose someone.
You hear so many horror stories it makes it difficult to pull the trigger.

Have you looked them up on line to see if there is anything out there saying not to use them?

We've searched on-line, used Angie's List, but there isn't always information available. I personally find it difficult when you do not have a personal recommendation. Sure I can look at their pictures on-line, but what does that tell you? It is a gamble always I understand. 1 of the quotes I felt like were too high too, but I am willing to spend to get someone good. I do not want to necessarily go with the lowest bidder.

we just found someone through a recommendation from someone who used him to do a lot of work on his house. I think that's the best way to really know and trust someone.

Our contractor went to high school w my neighbor and they use him as well. During Storm Sandy and getting estimates i got the best vibe from him.

We have used Forman Construction - a recommendation we got through LIF actually. I am very happy with their work and with the tile guy they recommended to do our bathrooms. We are coming to the end of a dormer project with them.

The most competent contractors we've found were found on here. The ones we found on Angie's List we had issues with, and they were "highly recommended" on Angie's list. We've been really hit or miss with AL, I'd say only 50% were actually as good as their recommendations suggested.

I loved Anthony from home rx. I got a few other quotes and his was by far and away the best - less than half of others. He's done 2 projects for me and I couldn't be more thrilled. I wish I had more money to have him do more.

He is the owner and there everyday (not all day). His crew is very trustworthy. I can't say enough positive things.

I used mark field for my home renovations. Most recently he built me an amazing cabinet from scratch that looks built in! He did my whole interior and exterior and he was very trustworthy. Always did what he said he was going 2 do :). He runs a small family business so he actually cares about each job :)

We used a licensed handyman for ours. His name is Lawrence, here is his number..6313345568. Very trustworthy and affordable. There's pictures in my album, he did our main bathroom.

We hired someone recommended He completely disappeared after he tore apart every room!!
He left garbage piled up for months, I am so aggravated. The project was supposed to be finished April 1st its not even 10% complete.
