Trying to help a dear friend
My dear friend has had 3 miscarriages in the past year and is now almost 8 wks preg with her 4th preg. Her OB called her today to say her progesterone is dropping (went from 16.5 to 14.9). I have no idea what prog levels should be - does anyone know? Is this # bad? Does it mean this preg will not develop?
She should have been on prog supps but the dr felt that her levels were good and it was unnecessary... She obviously needs a new dr but i feel so bad for where she is right now...

Re: Trying to help a dear friend
progesterone changes every day....multiple times a day actually...so she might be okay.
i would suggest she talk to her doc right away about supplementation however..

okay, that part is simply unacceptable...not calling her for a week...
here were my levels of progesterone as my pregnancy progressed - so you can see they go up and down:
13 - 2 days after positive test 19 - 3 days after first number 20 - a week after last number 23.8 - a week after last number 17.4 - 3 days after last number 19.7 - a week after last number 18.8 - a week after last number

Thank you so much for sharing your tests - I will pass this info on to her - it is very reassuring everything may be okay!

Re: Trying to help a dear friend
Progesterone in Pregnancy When Normal Values What Level Means Mid-Luteal Phase 5+ ng/ml
As mentioned above, a level of 5 indicates some kind of ovulatory activity, though most doctors want to see a level over 10 on unmedicated cycles, and over 15 with medications. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy.
First Trimester 10-90 ng/ml
Average is about 20 at 4 weeks LMP, and 40 at 14 weeks LMP. It is important to note that while a higher progesterone level corresponds with higher pregnancy success rates, one cannot fully predict outcome based on progesterone levels. Progesterone supplementation is unlikely to help if started after a positive pregnancy test.
Second Trimester 25-90 ng/ml Average is 40 at beginning, 90 at end.
Third Trimester 49-423 ng/ml Usually peaks at about 175.
