TSA makes traveler remove piercing

TSA makes traveler remove piercing
in order to board her flight. it was a nipple piercing.
I don't have one so I know nothing about them, (and this is probably just one of slew of reasons why I wouldn't) but why are they so hard to remove? A pliers? Its not like an earring? help me out here.....
Thoughts?

They are not like regular piercings & depending on the metal used they may need pliers to remove.
I had to use pliers to remove my tragus piercing before my c-section. They were made of Niobuim.
