TSA Precheck
Does anyone have TSA Precheck? I'm going for the interview tomorrow and was wondering what to expect.
Thanks!

Re: TSA Precheck
TSA Prescheck or Global Entry?
for TSA precheck - all they did was look at our documents (application and passport) and take our fingerprints. No "interview" - it was just fingerprint and identity processing.
When we decided to upgrade to Global Entry - we had to go to JFK - with passports and application. There the "interview" was questions like:
you went to Italy in 1999 - what was the reason? Have you ever been arrested? Do you own your own home?
eta: TSA Precheck - took less than 10 minutes
Global Entry took about 45 minutes

TSA Precheck
I just did it recently at ISP. It was like 10 minutes total for my son and I! Like the other poster said, fingerprints and looking at docs. I received my KTN in less than a week! We travel so much, and I honestly don't even know why I never signed up sooner!

I know!!!
DH and I just went to Fort Lauderdale this weekend and were looking longingly at the Pre-Check line as we waited for regular security.
And we were surrounded by idiots - the lady who tried to go back through the security line after showing her license to meet her friend with TSA screaming at her to come back, the guy trying to fly without picture ID (was waiting for his replacement NYS license) and the guy who clarified about 20 times what he needed to remove from his pockets who left his wallet in his back pocket...
I have my "interview" tomorrow at Newark since it was the closest I could get from home in the quickest amount of time since we're traveling for spring break.

Re: TSA Precheck
We got ours in February at JFK.
They literally looked at our passports, finger printed us and asked us to verify our address.
That was it!

Re: TSA Precheck
I have appointment tomorrow. Do I need to print out the document? I don't recall seeing anything about that.
Also, do you get approved on the spot or are you mailed something? Thx!

They mail you something. I think I also received an email. You don't need to print anything if you did the application online

They mail the card but, you also receive an email - my parents told me that after I asked (I didn't realize that they had applied - I thought they get it automatically because of age).

What does KTN mean? And how does precheck work at the airport. Do you get a special document? I know I can ask all this tomorrow, I'm just bored right now and want answers...lol
I've been wanting to do this for a few years now and always forget. But remember when I'm standing on line at the airport! We just got back from vaca on Saturday and booked our appts for tomorrow! Not missing it again.

TSA Precheck
Your KTN is your "Known Traveler Number". When you book a flight, there is a spot to enter that number into. If you already have one booked, you just go into your flight, and update that box with your number. Then, when you print your boarding passes, the TSA Pre-Check lingo should already be on it!

Awesome Thx!!
Im surprised at how reasonable the cost is. They could $85 a year for it if they wanted! Well worth the convenience.

Re: TSA Precheck
There is no "card" for the TSA precheck - there is for global entry. They are two separate programs. However, if you have global entry, you have TSA precheck. If you have only TSA precheck, you do not have Global Entry.
For TSA precheck, I was able to go on the website within 24 hours and get my KTN. DH didn't get his for a couple of weeks - it just kept saying "processing." They also mail you a letter with the number. When you book your flights, put your KTN in the box and "precheck" will print out on your boarding pass. That's it. Easy peasy.

Re: TSA Precheck
Easy peasy. Your fingerprints are taken, they ask a few easy questions and then your KTN is sent first by e-mail then followed up my snail mail. So worth the fee when it comes to travelling.
The KTN prints on your boarding pass, when you buy your ticket, you enter the number during the process and it will print on your boarding pass. DH and I have frequent flier accounts and we entered the KTN in our profile so that it is entered automatically when we buy our tickets.

I was wondering about this.
How much is Global Entry?

Re: TSA Precheck
Global Entry is $100 for 5 years. It's definitely a bigger PITA to apply for though. If you are doing the majority of your travel domestically, I wouldn't bother with it. We had a couple of international trips planned and my credit card gave it to me for free, so we did it.
Some credit cards (especially airline cards) will give you a credit when you apply for global entry, so look before you apply.

If you do pre check... can kids join you in a line? Meaning I’d have to do it, hubby too but what about the kids?

If you have an AMEX gold card they will give you a credit for TSA Pre Check also.

We have a Platinum card, I will have to look at this for when it's time to renew

it looked like it was only the Amex Gold business card.
But, the Platinum card definitely does.
I went today - it was really quick. I was annoyed though because I got there on time for my appointment and someone arrived 20 minutes early for theirs and they got taken first since they arrived 2 minutes before me. But, otherwise it went well.

I have this card. But was told it had to be AMEX Gold Business. Hmm...I will call AMEX today because I did pay with it yesterday. That would be great!

I'm pretty sure the only AMEX cards that pay for it are the Platinum (for individuals) and Gold Business.

It is - I inquired after seeing the post (we don't have a Gold Amex but, a ton of travel related cards so I thought one might help us out but, no...)

TSA Precheck
So I went Tuesday at 12:30 (well, 12:40 because the guy with the 12:50 appointment showed up really early and they took him first even though I was early for my appointment). My KTN came tonight at 8:09.
