TTC question- Confused as heck
ok. So from reading "maybe a mommys" thread I got some answers. Thank you for that!
So my questions
1. You CANT get preg unless you Ovulate right? There HAS to be an egg to fertilize!
2. CAN you get Preg on CD1?????? That would mean you would ovulate on day 1.
3. Maybe this is a better question. Lets say you have your period for 4 days. Can you ovulate on CD5? Hence, getting preg on CD5?
It just seems like it SHOULD be impossible for you to get preg they day after your period.....but NOT improbable.
4. I have EWCM like on CD 4-5. Does that mean I'm getting ready to ovulate???
Just looking for the laymans insight as we are going to TTC in the next 4-6 months.
Thanks for listening to my questions.

Yes!......100% yes! If you're not ovulating you're not getting pregnant because there is nothing there to fertilize.
2. CAN you get Preg on CD1?????? That would mean you would ovulate on day 1.
No because CD1 is the first day of full flow of your AF. Ovulation occurs mid-cycle, not CD1. You can't get pregnant while you have AF.......no egg there yet to fertilize. Most women ovulate around CD14 which would be about the earliest you could conceive. I have always had longer cycles and ovulated more around CD22-24.
3. Maybe this is a better question. Lets say you have your period for 4 days. Can you ovulate on CD5? Hence, getting preg on CD5? It just seems like it SHOULD be impossible for you to get preg they day after your period.....but NOT improbable.
No. It takes a few days AFTER AF for your follies to mature and be ready to be released. Again, even if you had a short period it would be a few days before your eggs would be ready and you ovulate.
It's not possible at all to get pregnant the day after your period. There are NO eggs. Ovulation occurs a few days after AF ends.
4. I have EWCM like on CD 4-5. Does that mean I'm getting ready to ovulate???
Possibly. However, I have had cycles where I had EWCM and even got my LH surge on an OPK and still didn't ovulate. The only way to know for sure if you ovulated is through sonos and blood work. EWCM usually precedes ovulation by about 2-3 days. I doubt you're ovulating CD8 (although is might be possible but rare) so maybe you're mistaking EWCM for something else.........like BD'ing "leftovers".

Re: TTC question- Confused as heck
I think the PP covered it with her answers but I wanted to add something. Sorry if it's TMI but I have the same experience with AF. My "flow" is blood mixed with pretty stretchy CM for a few days. I don't know why and never thought about it - it's just part of the grossness down there during those few days.
You CAN get pregnant during AF technically - if AF lasts 6 days, and you on the 6th day, and the sperm live for 4 days, and you O on CD10. There you go. Pretty convoluted but sure it could happen in theory! Not Day 1 though, that really can't happen.
