Another TTC question- bridesmaid related!!
I am going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding next May.
If we start TTC in the fall and I magically get pregnant soon after, what would happen with my gown? I do not want to put off TTC until after my friend's wedding because who knows how long it will actually take to get pregnant!?! I could put it off and then it could end up taking a year or more to get pregnant anyway!
So, I have decided to start when I'm ready and see what happens. As far as the gown goes... would I tell them at the store that there's a chance I might be pregnant when I need to wear the gown? Anyone with this experience willing to share? TIA

In most weddings I've been in the BMs didn't order their gowns until like 4 months before. At that point you will either know how far along you'll be at the wedding or if you get pregnant after the dress is ordered the store can always add fabric to your dress! They've been through this 1000 times!
Hey....my BFF couldn't even COME to my wedding b/c she got pregnant a few months before (I had a destination wedding)...It all works out!

ITA. You probably won't even be going to order dresses until the beginning of next year. By then, if you are pg, order up etc. and if you're not yet, you can let them know. Good luck!

yea well its def true that these gown places deal with this 1000 times
The wedding is in May and she plans on going with the BMs to get the gowns in Sept/Oct. so I won't know if I'm pregnant yet at that point since that's when we'll first be starting....
Ya know, "f" it I'll just deal with it if/when the times comes!!

If you're ready, then go for it! The bride will hopefully be understanding and help you figure out your gown situation when/if the time comes! Don't put your life on hold!

Re: Another TTC question- bridesmaid related!!
May is a long time away & a lot depends on the type of dresses the bride picks...
Some empire-waist dresses can be altered easily.
With my sister's wedding...we only ordered the dresses 4 months in advance...I was hoping I'd have delivered by then :(
I had a very pregnant bridesmaid in my own wedding party...who bought a dress in the same color, but a different design (we figured there was no way she'd fit into a regular dress...even w heavy alterations. It worked out beautifully. It wasn't even the same maker. The truth is...bridesmaids will never look exactly the same...no matter how hard one tries.
Def do NOT put plans on hold.

Re: Another TTC question- bridesmaid related!!
I am in a similar situation...i am in a wedding in may 2010 and another in september 2010. For the may wedding i bought the dress a size up. the told me if by may the dress we have purchased does not fit then i can buy a dress in the same color but a style that fits.
For the september wedding we haven't purchased our dresses yet but we did try on a dress that will probably be the style the september will go with. it is empire style that looks to allow room for to "grow" without changing the dress.
hth. it will all work out in the end! (at least that is what i tell myself!)

Ah so we are both May 2010 bridesmaids! I'm excited, it will be my first time as a bridesmaid! Anyway, I think the bride is going to have as go with a style of our choice. You gave me an excellent idea, I will choose something with an empire waist, just in case!
I haven't told the bride of the possibility of me being pregnant at her wedding yet, but I am fortunate that she will still be THRILLED for me and is not the type to get annoyed about the dress situation!

Re: Another TTC question- bridesmaid related!!
I am excited about being in the weddings as well! They were both bridesmaids in mine so its nice to reciprocate the favor/honor they did me by being in my wedding.
I am sure the bride in your wedding won't be upset. The girls already knew I was thinking of ttc but when I told them we were officially trying they were very excited for us.
BTW empire seems to be the best cut for ladies like us. We looked at ones by jcrew. i don't always look great in all empire but the ones there looked good.
Good luck and to you!!!

Re: Another TTC question- bridesmaid related!!
I'm going to be in two weddings next year, one in July 2010 and one in Sept 2010. We were TTC #2 and decided to put it on hold until after the weddings (well right now thats the plan anyway). These are my best friends and I really want to enjoy the planning and showers and parties. If I was TTC #1 I would definately not out it on hold though.

Re: Another TTC question- bridesmaid related!!
We are in the same position. DH's brother is getting married next summer. If we get pregnant as soon as we start I would be 8 or 9 months preggo at the outside wedding in D.C. in August. I am more worried I would go into early labor from the heat then about what the hell I will wear. However, I don't want to look like a whale either. We are going to stick with our plans for now, and see what happens. You can't plan your life around other people. If it is not this wedding it will be something else. Just do what you want to do.

Re: Another TTC question- bridesmaid related!!
Thanks ladies! I have always fully intended to start as soon as it's right for us, regardless of the upcoming wedding! My only concern was what happens with the gown/alterations, etc.
I spoke to my friend earlier today and told her about the possibility of being pregnant at her wedding and she was totally thrilled for us and very supportive! She says I will make a cute pregnant bridesmaid (she was VERY optimistic and assumed I will get pregnant right away!! ) Fortunately, it's likely that we will all be in different gowns of our choice- in which case I will choose something with an empire waist style just in case!
Thanks again ladies!

I'm going to be a bridesmaid in June, and if DH and I TTC in Sept., I may order my dress a size or two bigger. Some designers (Bill Levkoff, Jim Hjelm, and maybe one or two more) have maternity collections. If the bride picks a BM dress from one of the designers and I know I"m pg, I'll order the maternity dress.
