Tub Surround

We are in the process of gutting and redoing 3 of our bathrooms. Powder room is done. Up next is the kids' bathroom. Demo is almost complete. I was debating putting in a tub with an acrylic surround rather than tub and tile thinking maintenance would be easier. I assume that a one piece surround would be a breeze to keep clean. I wouldn't do this in my master but I feel like it's fine for the kids' bath.Thoughts? Does anyone else have this? Pros/cons?

Something like these...

Or like this without the doors.

Floor and vanity will be something along these lines...

Re: Tub Surround

I recently dumped 2 of those tub surrounds. They are not easy to clean AT ALL! In fact they are disgusting.
They build up mold and mildew in the seams and it's very hard to clean it.
When we finally ripped them out it was so nasty what we found.
Never again.
A real shower with tile or a tub with tile up the wall is much easier to clean actually

Oh yuck! Were yours older fiberglass ones? The newer ones are acrylic and supposed to be easy to clean but maybe I will just do tile!

We had one before we renovated and it was easy enough to clean. With that said, we did tile in both new bathrooms and I have no regrets. My kids are not showering daily yet so their shower stays way cleaner than the master. By the time they are showering every day they'll be old enough to scrub the tile!

I think the plastic looks cheap and I would stick with tile.

I'm not sure. There were all these seams though that were like grooves and water would collect in it and get nasty. Then I would have to like practically use a power washer to shoot water up there to clean it and all this nasty black mildew and junk would come falling out into the tub.
It was the bane of my existence.
I was so glad when we got rid of them- they had come in the house when we bought it

Ok, thanks! I was looking at ones that were all one piece so no real seams to get gunked up. But I think I'll just stick with tile.

stick with tiles and if your kids are still in the bath stage - don't do doors. makes it soo much harder to actually give a bath!

I hate doors! We had them in there and don't plan on putting doors in the new bathroom. My daughter is 4.5...I usually just give her a quick shower. My son is due in 8 weeks so a lot more baths in my future!

ETA: I also don't like shower curtains, though. I'll have to figure something out once they're old enough to shower on their own.
