Tuna? yes, no maybe?

I'm dying for tuna.
I know they say it's ok in moderation but I'm nervous.
I forgot to ask the Dr yesterday.

Do you guys eat it?
How often?
Did you wait until you are further along?

I am only 8 weeks and I feel like thisi is a critical time for development so I'm a bit worried.

But BOY do I want some tuna!!! Chat Icon

yes, it's totally fine!!!! I ate tuna at least twice a week during that time....fish is good for you....even if you ate it once a day it would still probably be fine. I mean, I'm no doctor, but I say enjoy!

Re: Tuna? yes, no maybe?

I personally wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole as I think all fish is disgusting, but you can have it 2x a week-moderation is key here.

Re: Tuna? yes, no maybe?

So far I only have had 1/2 a can of tuna this whole pregnancy. I have had shrimp, salmon, also. I researched and found certain types of tuna, in certain amounts were safe to eat. Then my doctor said No Tuna, b/c they think it is easier to avoid it all together, then to monitor how much. Chat Icon To me that is so dumb. I am not dumb, I can keep track. They do recommend eating other fish though. They made me Chat Icon

NO!!!!!

Okay so I'm going to be the food police today I guess. But do not eat Tuna once a day! DH is a physician and treated a baby that was severely retarded. The diagnoses was mercury poisoning in uterum. The mother while prego ate tuna all the time because she thought it was healthy.

The safest tuna is canned chunk light tuna.

If eating canned chunk light tuna you can have no more than six 6-oz servings per month safely

Re: Tuna? yes, no maybe?

Fish is fine in moderation, and it's only certain fish that contain mercury that you have to watch for. My dr said to limit tuna to once a week. I had it twice in 9 months.

Re: Tuna? yes, no maybe?

I eat tuna once a month and started from the second trimester. I was eating albacore even though I know chunk light tuna is safer to eat. Chunk light just grosses me out. I would definitely not eat it once a day. Every article I've read about fish stesses that point.

Re: Tuna? yes, no maybe?

My OB is pretty laid back about foods and she had told me no tuna at all during the first tri and after that, only once a week tops. I've 7+ months pregs and have only had it two times this whole pregnancy.

My Dr. said it's fine to have once a week as well but, it hasn't appealed to me.
