Turkey Trot 11/22 - Nissequogue River State Park

It's not too early, is it? Chat Icon

We got a pamphlet for this one that has more information than what I could find online, I'll edit this post with a photo of it.

Here is the race information page:

http://www.ourstatepark.com/turkeytrot2012.php

And here is the registration/payment page:

I'd expect that attendees would be smaller considering it's Thanksgiving morning, but they had 1200 last year, same as the Great South Bay race yesterday.

I have to talk to my husband first, but I'm considering doing this one. Especially since it's so close to home.

edit:

Here's a link to the course map

I said I might do one Thanksgiving Day but I wasn't sure. My family has a tradition of watching the parade and I am not sure I want to give that up. LOL Chat Icon

I ran it for the last 2 years. It's crowded... The road narrows into a path within the first half mile so there is bottlenecking. The start of the race is uphill as well as most of the first half. Second half is downhill.

There is also a turkey trot in Smithtown starting at the school behind Baja grill.

I found one in Blue Point I may do since the route is flat. And benefits

I found some info on Smithtown Patch for last year: http://smithtown.patch.com/events/9th-annual-gail-gorin-memorial-turkey-trot

Nothing for this year, nothing on the Leukemia & Lymphoma society page either. Chat Icon

I emailed the organizer. hope they have it!

If you girls want to run the nissequoge course before as practice we can do that.... don't let the hill discourage you. its a long downhill to the finish. what goes up must come down!

Good point Chat Icon We intend to do that, if for no other reason because we've never been there and live right in St. James. My husband especially is looking for something more challenging and can't decide if that means 10k or a hilly 5k.

If we're entertaining on Thanksgiving though... not sure if he's going to want to do it.

I was getting a root canal done yesterday and noticed my dentist has a picture on the wall of he and his daughter with number bibs on them. Turns out he's a runner and told me about a 5k he's doing and it's the one that MsSissy posted! Makes sense, since it benefits an orthodontic charity. Chat Icon
