Twilight-- I've got questions and rants
Ok, I've been slogging through Twilight. I'm almost finished but I've got some questions.
1.) So these Cullen kids can't be around for blood-typing day in bio class right? A small drop of human blood might cause them all to go into a feeding frenzy. Why then can they be around girls who, at some point, must get their periods? Makes no sense.
2.) So Bella is supposedly amazing, beautiful, intelligent perfect girl but she treats her friends (the human ones) like they are beneath her and she needs saving constantly. How many life threatening situations can your stupidity get you into in one book? Thank God this goddess of human perfection has every male ready and willing to save her.
3.) The father/chief of police sucks at both his jobs. How completely clueless can you be?
4.) Edward is frigging creepy. The dude watches her in her sleep. He hates her then he's obsessively in love with her. He puts her in dangerous situations. He eavesdrops on her conversations.
5.) As AngNShaun pointed out, I could skip pages of the book and not miss anything relevant. Stephanie Meyers uses 5000 words where 100 would work just fine.
Honestly, I'm still hoping James ***** up Bella reallllly good.
BTW, my son walked into the room last night and sees me reading Twilight. He gets this smirk on his face and says "Hi Dad, grow a vagina yet?"

Re: Twilight-- I've got questions and rants
I find its better to just say straight out its absolute tripe and NOT literature and then those questions aren't as pressing...
Just wait until you keep going through the series...when I go to the middle of the 4th book I was so angry and outraged that I had wasted all that time only for THAT to happen I threw my book across the room!

It was written for young adults. It's not meant to be Pulitzer Prize winning material. FTR, I loved the series, but then again I'm a big sci-fi fan, which is pretty much how I looked at this series.

Re: Twilight-- I've got questions and rants
I was hoping to hear how you're coming along with it!
Honestly, I applaud you for keeping up your side of the bargain- I think DH would do ANYTHING but read these books.
The only question that I have an actual answer to is the question why does Bella almost keep dying? I look at it almost like the movie Final Destination- like Edward fought fate by not killing her straight away and now fate is tring to right the situation.
I didn't say it was a logical answer, but it's an answer. lol!
ETA: LB- I enjoyed the series, too. I'm not gonna lie and say I didn't roll my eyes at some of it, but ya have to take it for what it is.

I agree. I read ALOT of YA books. I don't go into them expecting superb writing or even story lines. I read them because they are easy and let me remember what it was to be young, fun and foolish.

Re: Twilight-- I've got questions and rants
As other posters said, I went into reading the series knowing it was written for young adults. I never expected much out of it. I enjoyed the series for what it was & not for anything more.

Re: Twilight-- I've got questions and rants
I expect YA books to be better then this series. Madeleine L'Engle is a prime example of excellent YA science-fiction. I didn't go into this expecting "Pulitzer Prize" winning fiction, I did expect better writing, better editing and characters that did not make me want to kill them myself.
Onward to New Moon.

Re: Twilight-- I've got questions and rants
All of those questions are valid and so true! I found that to enjoy the stories, I pretty much had to suspend all common sense. They're definitely not "literature" in its purest form. Just wait until you get to Breaking Dawn, I can't wait to hear what you have to say about that one!

To sum up: Bella can't do anything for herself. She needs Edward for everything and anything. And Jacob doesn't own a shirt.

I LOVE this.... I read a book and a half before I couldn't take it anymore and stopped. The author overuses the word beautiful, as in Edward's beautiful marble hair/chest/eyes etc.
I've said it in posts before, the urge to kick Bella in the face became stronger with every page.

I enjoyed reading the series but it's definitely more "for fun" and you have to suspend reality and common sense quite a bit to get into it.

Same here....4th one was ridiculous...Eclipse was by far my favorite of the whole series. Midnight Sun is a close second, I wish she would've finished that book - Edward is not as whiny as Bella and his perspective is a lot more interesting.

Re: Twilight-- I've got questions and rants
I was wondering how you were 'liking' the books!! First time I read them I totally drank the kool-aid. Second-eighth times through I was much more critical At this point I can't stand listening to people obsess over them or the movies.
I agree with MikesBride...Rick Riordan rocks!!
Oh and I love your son's comment. Practically PIMPed at that one!

I've seen the movies (um, many times over ) and read Midnight Sun. I can't bring myself to read the others, but I want to know the details of what happens in the last book. Is it worth reading will it make me hat the whole thing?

I don't know if it'll make you hate the whole series, but it is pretty far fetched (as far fetched as vampires can be) I still read it and enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as the first three books of the series.
