Two more "big kid bed" questions-- bedrails & blankets
Sorry, I'm in a time crunch to buy everything before this weekend
1. DD is going to have a twin bed. I see they make regular and extra-long bedrails. I don't need the extra-long ones, right? Also, which bedrails do you recommend? I'll be getting them for both sides of the bed, if that matters...and will have a mattress and a boxspring, if that matters.
2. What kind of bedding do you have on your kids' bed? DD's new comforter is a nice, thick comforter (aka a pain to wash in our washing machine ). Right now all she sleeps with is a super-soft blanket in her crib (it is warm), that's it. So I'm obviously getting sheets, so she'll have a top sheet to pull over her...couldn't I just fold the comforter down at the bottom of the bed and get her a warm blanket (like she uses now, except it's a throw size and wouldn't fit the bed) to use with the sheet? That way the comforter stays more clean, and she doesn't really need the bulky thick comforter anyway since she doesn't use something so thick now....how does that sound?

Re: Two more "big kid bed" questions-- bedrails & blankets
I have the xtra long bedrails and DS STILL managed to fall out of the bed (there is like 1ft of unguarded bed above and below the bedrail). He fell out two times so now we stuff pillows in that space! Can u imagine?! Its a full bed, how he managed to fall out I have no idea...luckily he was OK.
I have the comforter folded up at the foot of the bed like u plan on doing, and DS uses a small fleece blankie to sleep with (his fav blankie). We dont use a top sheet.

Re: Two more "big kid bed" questions-- bedrails & blankets
I think we're on the same schedule for everything because I've been running around doing all this too
I got him super soft sheets and a soft (almost furry) twin blanket from BBB because I just bought a quilt for on top. He helped me pick it all out and he liked to soft blanket. If he still wants his smaller crib blanket right on top of him, I'll let him keep that in there too.
We got the Regalo double sided, hideaway bed rails from BBB which only came in the regular size not the extra long but I had the same debate. Put them on last night and they seem long enough but they havent been tested yet
We were going to wait to put him in there until Friday night since he's cozy with all of his old stuff in the baby's room right now but I think he's getting excited after seeing his new firetruck room so we may try it tonight. I'll let you know how it goes

How funny that we're on the same schedule I just ordered crib rails (regular length) that will be here tomorrow (LOVE diapers.com!) so hopefully they'll work. Do you have a boxspring on his bed too? And I definitely think I'll do the same and just get a blanket to go over the sheet, then fold the comforter down on the bottom of the bed at night. She has a "fuzzy blanket" as she calls it that is super soft that we snuggle with on the couch, she's always asking me to take it into her bed but I *think* it's a twin not a throw size...if that's the case, I may make her day and put it on her bed!
You got a waterproof mattress pad too, right? I need to get those ASAP!

Re: Two more "big kid bed" questions-- bedrails & blankets
I fold DD's quilt and pink blanket down and she actually just uses a Dora throw at bed time (it doesn't match at all and it hideous, but she loves it so I just put it away when I make the bed).
I don't put the top sheets on the bed yet, just the fitted sheet usually (stopped uses the flat sheet when I have to change a bed a few times in the middle of the night-what a pita!)
I have rails for both sides-I got the extra long, you probably don't need the extra long, but it would give you more coverage if you used the extra long (i.e. less space for her to climb out of.)

Re: Two more "big kid bed" questions-- bedrails & blankets
We have a regular size bed rial on Lily's bed....it detaches, so I take it off during the day and put it on at night. She uses her comforter when she's sleeping....and I use the bed rail to keep it tucked in so it doesn't come off.....because then she wakes up and makes us come in to fix it.

Re: Two more "big kid bed" questions-- bedrails & blankets
We have C3's bed up against the wall and no rail at all. But it is only a twin...
I don't have a comforter on there, I haven't found one that I like, so he sleeps with a fleece Lightning McQueen blanket and then he is attached to a quilt my MIL made him when he was a baby.

great room! i have set up similar to this expect DD's bed is against the wall so we only have one rail. the comforter is folded at the bottom of her bed and she sleeps with a knitted blanket. we have the summer bed rail from BRU. it has a soft pink fleece over it. cute and comfy

Re: Two more "big kid bed" questions-- bedrails & blankets
I did put a waterproof matress cover on there.
We didn't need a box spring (we have a trundle under there but the frame also has wood slats all the way across). Not sure if you got the "hideaway" rails but we discovered last night that you're better off with the boxspring if you use those because if the mattress is just on the frame, the "lip" prevents you from being able to slide the rails under the mattress.
Good luck with the transition
ETA: Are you using her crib for the baby? Are you explaining anything to her about it? I havent said anything so far but I'm so afraid he's going to be "mad" that the baby is getting his crib (he LOVES it in there). That's why I'm trying to switch him now rather than in June
