Tylenol....

How many times can you give your baby tylenol? Julia is teething sooooo bad, and I've been giving her tylenol in the morning and before she goes to bed. Ive been doing that for the past 2 days, is it ok to give her tylenol everyday? I just dont know what to do, I feel so bad. Chat Icon

Re: Tylenol....

I wouldn't give it every day, but if you are giving it just 1 or 2/day I think that is fine. try the teething tablets, or other homeopathic remedies. A wet wash cloth, I have also sat with my son and given him ice pops, I watch very closely though, he usually falls asleep since it is so comforting. Good luck, it's so tough on those little onesChat Icon

What are teething tablets? I will try the wet wash cloth. Tylenol is just so easy to give and lasts long too. I just wanted to ask cause I get nervous giving to much medicine. Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: Tylenol....

Hyland's teething tablets, you can get them at Eckerd, CVS, Wild by Nature. They dissolve as soon as they hit saliva. Tylenol can be rough on the liver, so I only use it when absolutely necessary.

Re: Tylenol....

Tylenol is only a risk to the liver in overdose. It is metabolized in the liver but when used properly is safe. The teething tablets are considered an "herbal remedy" and are not subject to review by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or purity. One of the ingredients in the tablets is "belladonna alkaloids" which is probably one of the things in them that is actually producing the relief from teething symptoms. The effects of Belladonna Alkaloids are, among other things, dry mouth and sedation. They can also cause confusion, urinary retention and constipation. Just because they are "all-natural" and sold over the counter doesn't mean they are safer than FDA approved drugs like Tylenol. You should still ask the pediatrican before giving them to your infant. The doctor may not know what is in them though, so you should have the list of ingredients available for him when you ask. You can get the list online by googling Teething Tablets.

Thanks so much for posting this info, I'm just going to sick to tylenol if she really need it, or I will just use the wet wash cloth. I guess there is really not much to do then that. Chat Icon

the amount of belladonna in the teething tablets is so broken down that it poses no risk, I did MUCH research on this topic as did my pediatrician who is very conservative, and it is safe if dosage requireemnts are followed.

Re: Tylenol....

I give Emily a wet washcloth, as well as a teether that you CAN put in the freezer so it stays cold for a long time. A lt of them say do not freeze but this one is by MUCHKINLAND and it says that it is safe to freeze.

I'm not saying that they are necessarily BAD -- just that they haven't been reviewed by the FDA, which makes me hesitant about them. And when given a choice between a therapeutic dose of Tylenol or a therapeutic dose of belladonna, and whatever other herbs are in them, I personally would choose the Tylenol.

Re: Tylenol....

Every 6 hours would be fine... no more than 4 times a day.

That is dosage of 0.4 ml = 40 mg of Tylenol

My ped told me Tylenol because it lasts the longest. She said don't bother with oragel or anything like that. So I have been giving him the teethers during the day and Tylenol at night. I feel so bad for him, it must be so painful to get all of your teeth.

Re: Tylenol....

We use Motrin but the baby has to be six months old for that.

We asked our pediatrician about the teething tablets and he looked at the ingredients and said he wouldn't give it to his own kids - well, good enough for me. We didn't use them.

Jesse likes the vibrating teether as well.

Well Julia is 7mths so she can get the motrin but I feel it maybe to stong to give her just for teething, so I'm giving her tylenol just at night. I'm not going to give her the teething tablets too much stuff in them I'm not sure about. Hopefully she will get over this fast!
