Type of Potty Training Regression - VERY VERY VERY long
I am thisclose to losing it.
Jack has been AMAZING about going to the bathroom. Peeing standing up - goes in all by himself. Pooping each and every time he says he has to. Just too good to be true.
He went to school today so I asked him if he went peepee there. He said "Yes. It was scary." -- I ask "What was scary?" - his response "the train"
Now, there is a train about a half a block away so I'm assuming it came by when he was peeing. Who even knows - he could be making up the nonsense about the train.
Fast forward to this afternoon. He comes running over to me "Mommy, I did peepee on the stairs" --I go and look, and sure enough - the kid peed on my stairs. I obviously give him all the reasons for him not to pee on the stairs. That we pee in the toilet - blah blah blah.
A few hours later I see that he closes my office door, which is shady since we always keep it open. I go running in and he just peed on the rug.
***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I lose my mind. He helps me clean it up.
He normally gets a big cup of milk right before bed and then pees. He took a bath tonight and I was putting Ty down so I don't know if he peed in the bath but he refused to pee in the toilet before bed. I told him he doesn't get his little glass of milk before bed if he doesn't pee (which he can't live without) and he didn't care.
Mind you, he pooped on the toilet minutes before bed.
*** is going on here. PLease tell me someone has gone through something like this.
It's one day - and I'm really praying that tomorrow is not like this - but PT'ing has been the hardest thing I have done as a parent, and he was getting SOOOOO good at it that this may very well push me over the edge.

Re: Type of Potty Training Regression - VERY VERY VERY long
I have no advice but know how you feel. Chelsea has been potty trained since November. She did great. Poop had some issues but she is constipated so we dealt with it.
Last week she peed every single day in her pants at school. I asked her why she had accidents and her response was "Because I did." OOKKKKK I told her that was not the right answer and she said "Yes it is the right answer".
She knows what she is doing is wrong so I started taking things away. I know people are against that but rewards NEVER work with her. So if she had an accident at school then she could not watch Dora before bed etc. After two nights of this she hasn't had another accident.
Potty training I swear has been the single most frustrating thing so far in her 3 years.

D I'm sure I'm no help here, since we're not "there" yet, but only because he mentioned being "scared" of something, can you sit him down and ask him about it? It almost sounds like he's scared to go to the bathroom/toilet based on these "accidents" right? Maybe a loud noise or something else did give him a fright??

No advice because I have no idea what I am doing but I couldn't agree more with this statement!

I absolutely agree with this. Potty training = hell, at least in my experience.

I'm having a hard time with DD too. She was doing really well and then started having accidents and sometimes refusing to go. I don't have any answers. But you're not alone.

No idea-5 months into it and DD still doesn't poop on the toilet regularly.
Could you tell him he is going ot have to wear diapers if he can't be a big boy and go on the potty? DD hates the idea of diapers now.
So frustrating

Re: Type of Potty Training Regression - VERY VERY VERY long
Thanks everyone.
Now that I've had some time to cool down I'm praying that this was just a one day thing. I'm not going to start the day off on the wrong foot, I'll just do what I always do - and bring him to the toilet first thing in the morning.
Taking toys away doesn't work for him. It sounds crazy but the only way I get him to do anything (like eat dinner) is to threaten that he won't get any milk or applejuice. That will be my threat if I need it. He doesn't pee on the potty - he doesn't get milk (since he drinks a half gallon a day)
It's really so frustrating. And, this is coming out of leftfield.

Re: Type of Potty Training Regression - VERY VERY VERY long
No clue why but Ryan did this too. Was fully trained and even night trained - but then he just got lazy or something. It was a solid month (sorry to scare you) of random accidents. Pooping himself which was so odd b/c he used to take pride in telling us and going Some accidents at daycare, some at home. His teacher suggested it was connected to Colin - jealousy. Maybe now that he's more verbal and all over the place - no longer "the baby"
Anyway, back to a reward system we went - I know that's not what you want to hear, but I'm not doing toys. He is just getting stars for poop and we're taking him to The Source for a train and carousel ride. Pretty much, I intend to use any upcoming fun as the reward - a trip to McDonalds, a party, etc. Nothing really out of my pocket, KWIM? He doesn't need to know we would have gone anyways
I know how frustating this is - but we're def back on track so there is hope

Re: Type of Potty Training Regression - VERY VERY VERY long
I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's probably just a passing phase for whatever reason and I think it's pretty common. DS has been great but then had two accidents yesterday. I would make him help clean up but I wouldn't focus too much on it. I think the less you respond...the less appealing it will be to him.
