that's why SHE's the boss get used to it, plenty of people made it into work today, at least you can come in at 11 instead of the early morning rush!

Re: u gotta love a boss who says...
Michi you know I love ya but this entire situation stinks and probably isn't going to change anytime soon
I HATE to say this, but they are the boss and honestly they can do whatever the hell they want. Doesnt' make it fair or right but that's the way it is
Today here at my firm I noticed SO MANY of the attorneys did not come in but then again, they can get away with it and work fromhome if possible. We (staff) cannot. Those of my co-workers who did not get in (they allowed you to be late with no penalty) will wind up being docked OR having to use a vacation/sick day.
My boss didn't even try to take the LIRR from Centerport, but really he doesn't have to answer to anyone either
If the strike was only 1 day, they would allow for people being out for TODAY.. but if this is going to continue, they are just going to start expecting that we do whatever it takes to be here.. esp. wiht all the contingency plans set up, etc. They figure by tomorrow people should arrange for a tough commute and work around the strike
Question: will they reimburse you for the cab ride? At my office they are ofering to reimburse those whose commutation expenses are going UP as a result of the strike. That would make it a bit better if you do have to cab it ya know?

My advice....if you can, take this advice! It's not worth the anxiety of working for people like this, there are decent bosses out there..you don't have to put up with this.

Why don't you take a cab on Queens Blvd? I am sure there will be plenty of livery cabs taking passengers to the railroad station.

Yeah but Michi... and i'll be honest... since you are low man on the totem pole... this will be the same no matter where you go. It has nothing to do with "corporate america".
If you grunt it out for a while... move up the ladder... it will be you that will end up in that position that allows you to do those same things.
Hell... I have to admit I have it pretty easy at my job now. I can more or less set my own hours (within reason). But I busted my a$$ for many years to get to this point. Worked a lot of crappy hours and even unfortunately got fired from a few jobs when I was much younger for not following the "code".
If you do the same thing and stick things out... it will get better IN TIME. And believe me... like Don said the people that do make it in to work on those blizzard days, strikes, blackouts, etc... are really recognized by management as the "good employees".
