UGH daycare vent
Ellie has been at this center for quite a few months and it's a real financial strain and I'd really rather work part-time so we figured let's ask about converting to p/t. She seems to have a lot of kids in her room that arent' full-time so I figure what's the big deal, right? I ask the asst. director who gives me an information sheet with a chart listing all the possible day combinations or hours and how much they'd be but says we'll have to talk with the owners next week when they are back from vac. ok fine. so we look at the sheet and find a two day schedule that would be perfect and a little more than half what we're paying for 5 days. So I ask today.....NO. And really no explanation other than to say she'd be taking a spot away from someone who'd go f/t. There's a lot of 2 yr olds that want to go full time she says. So why is it that it seems like the world is conspiring against me spending time with my daughter? How come it's so impossible to find a daycare that will let you do part-time? Rhetorical question by the way, please don't give me a list of all the reasons b/c I've been given all of them by all of the centers I have been to or contacted. We started out last year trying to find p/t care only to find that no one had a spot for p/t. Sorry I'm just frustrated and need to vent. We thought we came up with such a great solution and they had all the combos printed up so who knew they'd be so anti-p/t. UGH!

Re: UGH daycare vent
I don't understand, if they offer it why won't they give it to you. And how will you be taking it from someone that wants F/T. If E switches to P/T doesn't that open up a F/T spot?
sounds stressful

Re: UGH daycare vent
So if a lot of 2 year olds want to go FT can't one of them take your FT spot and you go PT?

I think what it means is that if the OP's daugther moves to p/t, they can't just fill that "spot" since there is only one spot for a 2 year old for p/t or f/t and another person that is paying for f/t could have that spot, i.e. it's more money in their pocket.
Can you find an in home daycare? I know a lot of them are pretty flexible.

Re: UGH daycare vent
This is why I am leaving my weekday job. I cannot justify this F/T cost of daycare. But 3 days is only $25 cheaper per week. So, I am just going to stop working furing the week.
A lot of daycares won't let you go P/T because in essence whether you are p/t or f/t, you just fill a spot.
I was told by one place in Farmingdale that the only way to do p/t for infants is to find another infant for the other shift of the day. Which means it's just impossible and they don't offer it.
