UGH!! I hate trying to make holiday plans!!!
This is a pain every year. I just want to be able to relax in my house with DH & my daughter for a few hours in the morning (opening gifts & breakfast) before we need to leave.
Is that such a big deal???

i know...these 2 hrs in my apt will be my fave part--we have 3 houses to go to on the eve (so many I need to take off work) and then my in-laws on xmas

I just don't get why people don't get it.

Well we are going out in the afternoon for early dinner.
Morning is rest and opening presents with just the 3 of us. I refuse to be stressed out on Chritmas Day.

Me too. I just wish I could stay home and relax on Christmas Day, but instead it will be run all over LI on both the Eve and Day.

DH and I made a rule last year that Christmas Eve and Christmas morning are ours to enjoy with each other and DS. We will spend the rest of the day on Christmas and probably several days afterward with family and friends so those times are ours. People may not like it but that's not really our concern.

We are putting our foot down this year...its just rediculous. We need to enjoy the day as a family too. So we are not going to my parents house before going to my aunts. My parents will see DS all christmas eve (DH's parents will be with us too) and then again at my aunts for Christmas dinner.....but thats not enough! They wanted me to bring him to their house before so they can give him his gifts, sorry...not doing it. We already have to have HH's parents for a late breakfast, thats enough.

Every year we get guilt trips from MIL becasue we aren't coming "home" for Christmas. I say...sure we are...we are in OUR HOME! We have a rule...now that we have kids....we go NOWHERE on Christmas b/c everyone lives out of town. My inlaws are stuck with their tradition of having xmas eve/xmas morning, and I totally understand that, but what they don't get is that it is now our turn to have our own traditions. In the same way DH woke up in his own bed to see what Santa had brought, our children will have the same.
Just put your foot down...the family will be annoyed at first, but will soon get over it. Its your right to enjoy your holiday.

I agree its all about putting your foot down, whats the worst is travelling to two homes during one day (nj and li) to both sets of parents to celebrate the holidays.

See...you can't just say it...ya gotta do it!!
I finally put my foot down last year when DD was 3 ... I said Christmas is about the kids, not the adults. The kids should be allowed to wake up, open gifts, drink hot cocoa and fall asleep in the wrapping paper. If anyone wants to join us, so be it...my door is open. Otherwise, we won't be there before 4 pm...luckily DH agreed....

I have major guilt with my mom because it is only her. There isn't anyone else. So, I feel obligated to go to her house and spend the day with her.
On the other hand, my inlaws also want Christmas day...I can't be in two places at one time. We have always spend Christmas Eve with them and now they want to change it!
I have to have this conversation soon@
