Ugh.. restless sleep in newborn
This is driving me INSANE and only happens at night. As she is sleeping she will grunt, groan, make weird noises, cry etc. She will move her head from side to side and thrash around (swaddled or not). I have been getting zero sleep because of it and cant figure out why she only does this at night.
Anyone have advice/similar experience? She is 8 weeks old today and still does not really have a sleeping "schedule" (which I dont expect her to...just want to know why when she IS sleeping at night, it is LOUD)
Thanks in advance!

Re: Ugh.. restless sleep in newborn
Same here...I think it's gas..because sometimes DS passes gas after grunting. And sometimes he wakes up from being uncomfortable..as is the case now..which is why I am awake & holding him so he can sleep.
I just want one night to sleep more than 3 hours in a row lol

Re: Ugh.. restless sleep in newborn
I agree it could be gas.
Sydnie would do this but after about 10 minutes she was usually settled down. I got much better sleep when I piut her in her room/crib at 8 weeks. The first night was soooooo hard but her every movement didn't startle me anymore.

Samantha does this at night too. She is a grunter & sqeaker. I believe the grunting is gas though because I notice when she does this she is also pulling her legs up towards her chest and then she will pass gas shortly after.

Re: Ugh.. restless sleep in newborn
Is her bassinet elevated at the head ??? Maybe her reflux is bugging her more at night ...My DS used to thash at night and did much better when we moved him to his crib ( for some reason he didnt like when his arms or legs touched the sides of the bassinet when he slept and likes the bigger space)...DD only does this when she needs to burp ..

Re: Ugh.. restless sleep in newborn
Jacen did this too for quite some time. The first few weeks i didn't get much sleep because i'm a light sleeper to begin with.
But then i got used to it and i would turn the monitor on the lowest level possible.
Unfortunately there was no answer on why he did it. He was just a very loud sleeper for a few months.

Re: Ugh.. restless sleep in newborn
My oldest daughter did this beginning at 3 weeks. My Dr told me that it occurs when they transition sleep stages. It caused us to move her immediately into her crib in the next room. I slept better and so did she since I let her work out the grunts for a little bit rather than running to her.

yes it is elevated.
we have been starting her out for the night in her crib and then when she wakes up for a bottle we normally put her in the cradle. I guess I will try and put her back in the crib and see how that works. She just sleeps so peacefully during the day that it has me
