Ugh, termites? Anyone know about organic or at least non toxic removal methods?
I just noticed little wings on one of our windowsills and one dead bug. From what I've read, this means we have termites. Does just seeing one dead bug and a bunch of wings mean we're infested? I'm beyond grossed out.
Now I'm getting freaked out thinking about chemicals being sprayed in our house. We have an infant and toddler, I don't want anything even close to toxic in here and I'd really prefer an organic company (if that even exists). Any recommendations?

We have the same situation. DH friend is a contractor and was putting in our new front doors yesterday and noticed we have termites. We are in the process of getting estimates and the first one will be on Saturday. I plan on asking them about the chemicals and things they use to get rid of them. I have a 14 month old DS.

Holy Christmas, $1800?!?!
Did it at least seem to work? I've been doing tons of reading and I read an article saying the bait traps are a scam. This is so annoying. It seems the only effective way to get rid of them is chemicals.

Re: Ugh, termites? Anyone know about organic or at least non toxic removal methods?
We just had termites a little over a month ago. I mean we were infested. There was one day that we killed a few hundred. It was so disgusting. I also researched the healthiest, non-toxic way to get rid of these termites, I have 3 kids under 2, and I just did not want the chemicals all over the house. What I found is many of the sprays are actually band in NY. My husband found that he could get them in florida (his brother would ship them to us). But I refused. They must have been band here for a reason. We ended up calling a professional and they put in the bait stations. It cost us $1500!!!!! The guy will come 4 times this year to check all the stations. Since he put the stations in, we have not found anymore termites. It was amazing. I was very hesitant as well...I did not think it would work, but it did! Worth the money not to see all those bugs in your house! I remember when I was a kid, we came home from school one afternoon and there were thousands in my den...then just swarmed. Its crazy how fast they come.

Ours was less. (800/$900- I forget) It does go by house size. They took off some because we have a contract with them already and there is a $100 coupon in Newsday they gave us.
We had a swarm in our sun room so who knows where they nested. EWW!! Sprout their wings and try to burrow somewhere so its hard to find the nest to treat. Thats why we did sentricon. they said to at least do it one more yr then the property is pretty much protected after that so we really dont need to do the $300/yr.
