ugh that glucose test

It may be firday the 13th superstition, but I think I failed that thing...

30 min after drinking it I felt a bit woozy. I was beginning to feel better by the time the hour was up, but I still felt a little off for another 30 min. I had to eat something in order to recover...

can you say '3 hour test'? Chat Icon

oh, and as for the fast or no fasting thing before the 1 hour test:

My dr said 'fasting isn't necessary'. I didn't eat anything before showing up becuase it was so early and I normally don't eat. When I filled out the lab forms, I checked 'not fasting', since I ate cookies and drank a caf-free coke last night. The woman said 'you're supposed to fast before this test!' I told I didn't eat today, and she was fine with it. She gave me the orange goop to drink, and RIGHT ON THE BOTTLE it said you should fast. Keep in mind this bottle is only for 1 hour tests...

so what the heck? why do some Dr's, including mine, say you don't have to fast? Chat Icon

Re: ugh that glucose test

Mine said no fasting..

I have my test in two weeks

They said it would throw off the tests and they want to see what my body does with that much sugar in a normal day. Ex: you are caught at some high sugar event, they wanted to make sure my body was processing it correctly.

*shrug* I dunno...

I just do as I'm told.

Like I've said before, I don't mind doing the 3hr so much. Nothing can compare to labor in 2 months, right?Chat Icon

Yeah, it was so wierd. My Dr. said the same thing as yours, but the nurse was adamant that I shouldn't have eaten. I will say that my Dr.'s comments were more wishy washy than your Dr's comments. I directly asked him about fasting, and he said 'nah, I don't think it's necessary', and then I told him that I likely will take the test first thing in the AM on an empty stomach due to my normal schedule/routine and asked if that was ok, and he didn't mind that either...

Come to think of it, if I DID eat breakfast (say a couple eggs with cheese) it possibly could give a false negative result since the protein/fat would slow the sugar absorption...

I pray my results come out ok... I really hope I don't have GD......

My doctor said you don't have to fast BUT it's more accurate if you do. I plan on going first thing in the morning when I do it so I will just stop eating about 12 hrs. prior and fast. I'd rather fast and have the test be more accurate than eat and risk having to repeat the test.

I was only allowed to have a bagel or toast with a small amt of butter for breakfast per my doctors office. Hence why I probably failed the 1 hr bc of the carbs Chat Icon

I was told to fast for the 3 hr.

Good luck!

Ugh.....I am soooo not looking forward to it. My doctor's appt. is on Wednesday, so I am sure my test will be a few days after.

I don't mind the drink.....it's the sitting there for an hour that kills me.
