It depends what county you live in. Queens, Nassau, Suffolk...etc all have different dates that heat is supposed to be provided.
My heat was turned on Saturday morning, I live in Nassau.

I am really surprised to hear so many on here with the same problem.

do you not pay your own utilities? do you have a thermostat?

Call the management office. I had this problem with an apartment (in queens) a few years ago. They dont have to turn on the heat until it's a certain temperature outside. . . but since the mornings are getting very cold (I think it was in the 30s today), you can probably argue.

I would call and if they give you a argument threaten to sue for Ava's medical bills if she gets sick from being too cold. I would be so angry Chat Icon

We have the same thing. Ours is on now, but in the spring, it will shut off and they told us " It will go off when its at a certain temperature"...and when we first tried to put it on last week, it didnt go on....

We dont pay for heat, but we live in a large complex.

This is us, too. We live in a large complex and the heat is turned on, but it only stays on for about 30-40 seconds, then it shuts off. It is FREEZING in my apartment. The baby was ICE COLD this morning and I had to put her in bed with us. So, technically, they claim the heat IS on and technically, it is, but it will not stay on. I had to put the heat sensors from the thermostat in the freezer to get the heat to stay on this morning for longer than the 30-40 seconds. It's supposed to kick on if it's under 72 degrees in my apartment, but it took five minutes of putting the little termometer thing in the freezer to get it to stay on. And I'm sorry, but I'm not waking up in the middle of the night to stick my thermostat in the f-cking freezerChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon And BTW, putting it in the freezer was the property manager's advice on how to get heatChat Icon Chat Icon

Could there be something wrong with the heating unit in your apt? Sometimes the line needs to be bled or the radiator knob is not turned the right way?

Generally, units need to be heated to 68 degrees during the day and 60 degrees in the evening when the temps outside are below 55.

You can make an official complaint here:

When heat is the landlord's responsibility but is not being provided, call the Suffolk County Department of Health at 631-852-5841 or (Brookhaven Township or East End) 631-852-5900.

Yeah, I would call your town and fiind out legally when they have to turn on the heat and what tempurature they have to maintain. Then call your managing agent and tell them the law.
