Uhhh...neighbors complained about the dogs barking...
while we are at work. My Peke is very protective and my pug has seperation anxiety and apparently they bark all day when we are not home. The neighbor said that even with all their windows closed they can still hear it. And get this...he comes over...knocks on my door and recommended a shock collar. he said people use them all of the time
ANy other suggestions besides a shock collar? I called my vet to get suggestions and the only suggestion he gave me was to get a shock collar for the neighbor!(my vet does not think a shock collar is humane) i have an appointment on Monday to discuss options with my Vet.
Help! We are new to the neighborhood and already i feel they hate us!

Does the shock collar zap them every time they bark ??? - How awful !! -
I think they make collars that will spray them if they consistently bark over a period of time - It sprays citronella (which suposedly they don't like) but it doesn't hurt them -
I used to keep my Yorkie in our enclosed porch b/c I THOUGHT she'd enjoy having all of the windows to look out of and not get bored while we were out - Stupid me, it was over stimulating her and she was barking at every bird that flew by ....... - So now I keep her in the kitchen so she can't jump up and bark at the 'outside' -
Good Luck !!

OK, first off, Pekes and Pugs should not use any training method that affects their necks. Both breeds have truncated sinuses and are prone to collapsing tracheas....so def do not go that route.
Have you tried leaving on a talk radio station to help with the Separation Anxiety? This is a personality trait in Pugs. My pug is ridiculous in this aspect. He pitches a fit whenever we leave. What we ended up doing is we would leave the house and then come back 2 minutes later. We would do this several times a day, then we'd spread it out to 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc. Also, there are pheromone release plug-ins that you can use as well. I think drsfosterandsmith.com has them.

Our dog barks alot especially if anyone walks past the house or if he hears another dog barking. We keep him in a room and turn on a noise machine and the radio. It helps drown out the other noises outside. Maybe that would help?

If the separation anxiety is really bad, they can take medication. That may be right up there with a shock collar as far as what you would want to do, though.

Perhaps you could get a dog walker during the day to calm them down? I always leave a radio on for Katie. I also give her a Kong with stuff in it and that takes her a while to finish.

My vet recommended a phermone plug-in if Marley began to exhibit seperation anxiety or excessive barking. She hasn't so far, but I have the details at home if you are interested.

We do this too. Keep a tv on always and all windows shut (our house is cool even in summer). This works for us.
What size is your property that they are being so badly effected by it? Ours is 50X100 so we are not large, and people walk very close to our house. So this may work for you?
