um, so this is how it goes now??? US tv execs: hey, we need some new ideas for shows...tv writers: ok, lets see what's going well for the BBC?
do we not come up with our own shows anymore?
Skins is now an MTV show, Being Human coming up on another channel...Top Gear sucking a big one on History, and poor Life on Mars who didn't make it.
not to mention the Office, half these "reality" shows and lord knows how many others.
I hope the bbc is getting paid for the plundering!!
and the worst part is, with the exception of the Office, we butcher them!

And every movie is a god awful remake of an older movie or a book. No one has any creativity anymore.

yeah, its pretty pathetic isn't it?
no originality anymore
i wonder if they do it because the show has already been 'tested' somewhere else and did well there, so is more of a sure thing to do ok here?

Really, we only get good shows that are few and far between, some are too regional to really translate, for instance The Royle Family was a great show, but it was way too specific to Manchester to travel. Also, Gavin & Stacey is very popular also, but would the Americans get all the Welshisms? A TV series might only be 6 episodes...so they aren't on long enough to be on in the states.
Skins is not a BBC show, its on Channel 4. Which is a commercial channel, it was a big hit, but not so much anymore, the Inbetweeners has taken its place. That show is FILTHY!!
Factual shows really are what we pay our license fee for...and no one does them better than aunty beeb! And reality shows...we get a ton of them, Katie Price, Kerry Katona...blech.
Do you ever get Doctor Who or Sherlock Holmes? (with my sex god Benedict Cumberbatch)

both Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes. Doctor Who is on BBC America and Sherlock was on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre. We actually got the Christmas special on Christmas Day here this year - that was a first!
Oh and I've seen "Inbetweeners" on Netflix. I teach high school and found it really upsetting.

LOVE these both.
I am also pretty excited about the US version of Torchwood. I love me some Captain Jack.

I Homles (and Watson). Also Inspector Lewis and most of what ends up on Masterpiece Mystery- I watch very little tv that's not imported.
Though I should point out that Law and Order UK seems to have borrowed heavily from the US version (but I still love it!)

There was one, Joel McHale was Roy and Richard Ayoade was Moss. It was a terrible failure and never got past the pilot stage. Stick with the UK version.
I met the writer of the IT Crowd (and Father Ted) at a party once. He directed a video for a friend of mine who is in a pop band and he was there at the aftershow party. I only said "hello" to him, buty it was one of those thrills of my lifetime.
Also, you guys don't get our really good shows, like Miranda, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, etc. You only get our sort of mainstream shows.

You do knw that John Barrowman is really the campest man in Britain next to Graham Norton don't you? He is so funny, and he is smeared all over our televisions. We want to give him to you, believe me!!!

There was a Christmas Day Sherlock? So sad I missed it.
I only saw 3 or 4 episodes in the last few months and have been wondering what happened to the show. It really annoys me when pbs isn't consistent with their Masterpiece offerings. They will show a period piece for two weeks then switch to a modern-day detective drama then back to a period mini-series.
And the Inbetweeners is THE BEST half hour of TV. Myself and DH cried laughing at every episode last year. It was on Wednesdays on BBC America. Can't wait for it to come back.

Has Skins been on before? When I saw the commercials for it, it just reminded of Degrassi taken to the extremes.

In my opinion, this is nothing new. The US producers go to England for a lot of their ideas. They can't think on their own

Can I just mention that your tv execs are missing a trick by not having "Come Dine With Me" on TV in the states. Its the best thing on the telly at the moment!!

yes, but now they've gotten even lazier and steal even the name.
and it's not even that they steal them, but that they either suck or bomb!!!!
BBCA IS airing the Tudors though. so happy about that.
Jeannie, do you really think Torchwood USA will be as good?
Rach, I want to go on the F Word. so badly!!!

Well, if you saw Come Dine with me, you would totally want to go on that! I want to go on that!
Ooh, and I saw an ad looking for amateur bakers for "The Great British Bake Off" which was also brilliant!

Alan Carr! He is pretty funny, I do like to watch Chatty Man on a Friday night. Jimmy Carr is pretty funny also. Anyone with Carr as their surname!
My friend was selling her house here in Chorlton, and she had a viewing and it was Alan Carr and another famous soap opera actor. Coronation Street is filmed up here, so there are lots of Corrie actors living in my neighbourhood. Some of their kids go to my sons school, so I see them on the school run.

In a strange twist of fate, there is an article discussing this exact thing in the Guardian today!
Shameless hits Showtime
This show should be interesting! Let me know if any of you watch it!

I thought he was so funny when I visited London a couple of summers ago, I bought his autobiography in the airport!
