Under the cabinet lighting in Kitchen
Does anyone have it? I have been begging DH to get it for me as my birthday present. We looked into doing it ourselves and it seemed to be more trouble then its worth.
Also, if you have it do you an installer to recommend?

Re: Under the cabinet lighting in Kitchen
I used to have it. The previous owners had it put in and I liked it at first but then I realized that I never actually turned it on and when one of the bulbs went I just ripped the whole thing out. I couldn't be bothered. It was a real mock up job though, just a few low profile lights that were screwed to the bottom of the cabinets and the wires were hidden under a piece of trim. I doubt they had it done professionally.

Re: Under the cabinet lighting in Kitchen
My DH installed ours... It took him awhile too, and it wasn't easy, but he's good for things like that. They are little round halogen bulb lights, and they have cords that plug in. So DH drilled a hole in the back of the cabinet (that you can't see anyway) and snaked the cords of each one up through the soffit and into the attic crawl space. Then he connected it to a junction box in that crawl space and connected them so that we can turn them on with a light switch in the kitchen. Told you it wasn't easy, but I love that I can switch the light switch and have additional counter lighting from them.

Re: Under the cabinet lighting in Kitchen
I had some extra "rope lighting", popular around christmastime, lying around. I just ran that up under the cabinets. Since I just threw it up there, the plug just hangs near an outlet, and we plug it in when we need it. It's handy, especially in the back corners where the overhead light doesn't reach, and our body is between the light and the countertop. When we redo our kitchen, I'm going to look into having something more professional done to duplicate that effect.

Ours sounds the same. We installed it when we put our new kitchen in, so it wasn't that difficult.

Re: Under the cabinet lighting in Kitchen
We know we could do the ones that simply plug in but I really wanted it on a switch, and that seems a little too intense for us to do ourselves.
Maybe I'll look for a handyman in the pennysaver and get a price.
Where the lights expensive? I don't remember when we priced them in Home Depot.

Re: Under the cabinet lighting in Kitchen
We just redid our kitchen and installed all under cabinet lights that are also controlled by various switches placed under the cabinets. I love how it looks and are glad we did it when the kitchen was redone.

Re: Under the cabinet lighting in Kitchen
A friend has this and it looks great. His coop is the exact same layout as ours but WOW!!! He is an interior designer too. We were just at his place tonight and his under cabinet lighting is all hooked up to dimmers and sensors. He also has a few sets of glass cabinets and they all have lighting at the top.
When he shuts the undercabinet lights off the night lights plugged into the extra outlets automatically turn on. They are wired from the wall but not with holes in his cabinets. The wires line the underside of his cabinets.
I know that to upgrade his fuse box was $1,500 and that he had about 8 outlets added to his kitchen, an outlet for his dual fuel range was added, an outlet for his over-the-range microwave was added and he put in a dishwasher. His bedroom lights are on a remote as are some of his dining room lights and he put in two sets of track lights in the living room.
As for the kitchen - there were only 2 outlets in the kitchen before his remodel. He paid a pretty penny to have all of that electrical work done but I did not ask the price.
