Unemployment Question.

If you get laid off, start collecting unemployment, and get a job, work there for a little while-and quit, can you still collect?

On the website it seems you can start collecting again...but i'm unsure Chat Icon

TIA!

Re: Unemployment Question.

If you did not claim all your benefits (still had money left). Than you can claim the remaining benefits, it stays open for a period of time. My husband did it this year.

I only claimed 5 weeks worth of unemployment.

I started a new job on Monday, so If I do, in fact, not like it in a few months-I can quit and collect again?

I know I have 26 weeks worth of it and I also have up until October 2009.

I didnt think I could start collecting again once you stop.

You can start collecting agian, but you have to get laid off/fired from the new job. As long as the employer approves it than you are good. however if you quit you will be denied to collect again.

DH was laid off for about 2 months in April than again during the summer (july), he was able to collect again with the same open claim.

Right- if you get laid off from the new job, then yes you can collect.
If you leave on your own you are not entitled...

Re: Unemployment Question.

You may be able to ask your employer to lay you off. Considering they hired you but no one really can tell you what your duties are..
