unsure how this works...maybe someone knows.
Dh and I have seperate health ins. I pay 45 biweekly he pays 29 bi weekly. I am due Dec 1 st so it pays for us to go on a family plan with his company for 95 biweekly for all 3 of us. At this time him and I both have empire. Will this be a problem for me to jump on his plan with the baby? Otherwise I would have to continue paying my 45 and him and the baby would be 95 on his plan.

I'm not in HR, but I would think it would be fine to jump on his. I think that you are paying more because your company supplements less and doesn't really have anything to do with empire, per se.....

I would Have your Dh call the Insurance plan and explain the situation and see if they will switch you to a"familyplan" and Hopefully they will! Good luck to you.

I would review both of your plans-- just because it's the same provider does not mean it's the same policy-- it's whatever each of your company's negotiated.
Before you switch I would make sure you don't run into any problems with a different health insurance now that you are prego.
I would also overlap coverage for a month to ensure there are no problems when you actually switch.

Check to see when open enrollment is on his company plan. At my work an employee can add a baby within 30 days of birth but a spouse can only be added at open enrollment or if they just got married or just lost their prior coverage.

Your right...its not the same empire policy. Actually his is 10xs better...LOL When I give birth admissions free, when I need prescript its 10 dollars, and ultimately its cheaper. I am unsure if you can overlap...isnt it primary first...which would be mine...so Id be paying 250 hosp admission.

Thats a good point...I wonder If I would have to wait for his open enrollment for me to be added.

Re: unsure how this works...maybe someone knows.
I would do it now-- when are you due??
I just went on DH's plan-- his company has contiuous open enrollment-- you should check when you can get on your husband's plan and do it ASAP so that when the baby comes-- you can be on his plan. Some companies only have open enrollment twice a year.

Re: unsure how this works...maybe someone knows.
you can't technically be covered by two plans at once. Talk to your HR about how to handle. You;ll need a letter of prior coverage to provide to your husband's company in order to get enrolled-- so you will need some help with contacting the right people. Try to have your HR dept call and get you the appropriate paperwork-- since in my experience, health insurance customer service is not all that helpful.
