UPDATE -- Got my BFP. TTC again -- scared / getting sick
So, im officially TTC again. DS is 2 and my terrible pregnancy with him is still not too distant a memory, which makes me scared. The first pregnancy I was SO SICK. I would throw up morning noon and night and feel incredibly nauseous throughout the entire day. I remember just walking PAST the kitchen would make me gag, let alone going into the fridge...or seeing food. I couldnt keep anything down -- sometimes water was even too hard, forget about even brushing my teeth. I didnt have prenatals for over half my pregnancy bc I just couldnt get it down. I worry about how i will take care of DS during this period -- prepping his food and milk etc. The first time I was sick and was not offered any drugs (zofran). My doctor just kept telling me "it will pass". It eventually did get better half way through the pregnancy, but then it came back in waves. I was never really 100%. During this period I only had me to worry about and it was hard enough as it was getting to / from work everyday -- getting sick on the train and in the office etc. Now im really worried bc i have DS to care for too. Those that are on Zofran....does it really work? How sick did you have to be in order for your doc to recommend it? I feel like I couldnt be any sicker and he still didnt offer it...makes me wonder why. If i get preg and get that sick again im going to need something to get through. Thanks!!
UPDATE- got my BFP over the weekend -- so here goes nothing! LOL

Re: TTC again -- scared / getting sick
Don't psyche yourself out just yet. My first and second pregnancies were total opposites.
First pregnancy I was nauseous 24/7 for 9 weeks; second pregnancy I didn't have a single moment of nausea (until I was in labor!).
First pregnancy I didn't swell in the slightest; second pregnancy I blew up like a balloon.
First pregnancy I had some aches and pains, but nothing bad. I even went to the gym until 36 weeks. Second pregnancy I was incredibly uncomfortable (to put it nicely).
The list goes on.
Each pregnancy is different.

Re: TTC again -- scared / getting sick
I took Zofran with DS. I was sick from 5 weeks through about 15 or 16 weeks. I couldn't keep anything down. Not even water. At somewhere around 7 weeks I went over 2 days without eating or drinking anything and ended up in the ER and was severely dehydrated. They gave me Zofran and I was on it until 16 weeks. It didn't completely take the nausea away but it made it much more bearable. I went from being so sick that I was incapacitated and lived on the bathroom floor, to being able to actually function.
I have had several friends who also had terrible morning (all-day) sickness but not nearly as bad as mine, and they too were prescribed Zofran or something similar to it. Honestly, I'm very surprised that your doctor didn't offer it to you considering how sick you were. If it happens again this next time, I would come right out and demand it.

TTC again -- scared / getting sick
Thank you both. It is hard for me to think that this preg will be any different, but i know I should be optimistic. If I am this sick again I guess I will have to push for Zofran and see what he says.

TTC again -- scared / getting sick
I was on zofran from 7 weeks until the day before I went into labor. I couldn't keep anything down. The sight of water made me gag. I was dehydrated and ended up with a subchorionic hematoma from the force of the vomiting. Even with the zofran I wasn't 100%, but I was eventually able to keep food down.
Props to you for going for a second. I'm not sure I'll ever have it in me!

That sounds terrible. Honestly when DS was born i told everyone i would never do it again. There is still a part of me that cannot imagine going through it a second time. Ughhh

Re: TTC again -- scared / getting sick
I was on Zofran my entire pregnancy. I would try not to take it at times and would still get sick. It was my lifesaver. I truly could not function without it.

Same here.
I wouldn't have been able to live without it. I would try to stop taking it to see if the morning sickness was gone yet but it stayed the entire pregnancy. I was vomiting when my water broke.
The only problem I had with Zofran was when my insurance didn't want to pay for it after the first trimester. I had to have the doctor fill out a medical necessity form for my second trimester. I ended up having to pay over $200 a month out of pocket for it because they wouldn't cover it at all in the 3rd trimester.
I've heard from other women that every pregnancy is different and it's possible you won't get sick (or as sick) the 2nd time around. I really hope thats true
